Blogdom Saved — Linda Exposed

Sunday, I made a turkey breast. It is supposed to have something in it to make you sleepy. I slept through the start of the tournament and even felt drugged waking up. So, my sure winner status saved a place higher for all those who placed, I base that not on my superior skill but the law of averages. I haven’t seen a final table since TonyG sent me packing. A small part of that is that I’ve been in ring mode most of that time.

I see Linda went out 199th after 3-hours. She had AKs. I find that very exciting. I can now throw her blog back in her face every time I get that “I never get anything but trash cards. I haven’t seen AA in two years. Woe is poor little me.” Malarkey!!!

As long as we’re around the crying in their beer crowd, I’ll join in. I either suck at stud or have run the cooler from hell for about 2 months. The suck part seems to be going from reasonable to proven. I remember when I used to win a session occasionally. I’ve been bleeding chips and haven’t seen one of those very nice big wins in way too long. I think I’m slowly improving my stud play but the bankroll is ROFL at that idea.

I’ve gotten so desperate that I downloaded Poker Tracker Stud and Stud Inspector. These are the demos. I see that the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is selling similar products. Well, they are really giving them away if you upgrade your membership. I have two memberships already.

I must confess that I’ve never gotten the hots others have for Poker Tracker. I do respect the coding. It is a pain to code user defined functions. I did a parser for that that programmers beside myself thought elegant.(Elegant is a term programmers use for best practices code and have to change their messy jammys if someone says that about their code.)

As a design, I’m less impressed. Not that sure how it’d be made better; but, the design is one that only a number cruncher could love. They tend to appreciate anything that keeps them from the crap detail donkey work of the pre-computer era. As a group they are easy to satisfy and get emotional in a way that would get people doing that in public locked up when they can muck with user created formulas. It is the thing that kept me eating for a number of years.

But, I downloaded Poker Tracker and have been building the free 1000 hand database using PokerStars play. It says I am Loose Passive / Passive. I am not sure what the double passive means. I also haven’t poured over the hands as many love to do. Frankly, all that is too close to what I had to do for a living. I play poker for fun and honestly think I’d get better info about my game by rereading West’s book.

I suspect that Poker Tracker has introduced a bias based on not factoring in being forced to the bring-in. If there is anybody in the cheap seats that isn’t Loose, I am that anal retentive clod. Me being that loose seems a huge stretch. Passive/Passive seems a possibility. That was the area I was concerned about when I tried PT out. I’m not sure what the stutter is in PT. And, the explanation of P/P isn’t easy to dig out of the docs. And, documentation-wise, PT doesn’t impress my geeky nature either. It explains the obvious in detail which makes things overly busy. The KISS principle is lost on those folks.

I also hate their use of splash screens with the demo. When you beat me over the head trying to peddle your ad shit, I do not like it or you after a very short time. They make you wait and wait to press a button to get the program not only to load but to exit. That makes me think the only gesture they are going to get from me is not financial; it is my middle digit. “|”

So, I am no closer to figuring out if I am a donkey, DONKEY, or Chilly Willy the Penguin cartoon. And those demos just confused me more. Maybe I should find a new hobby like basket weaving and get a jump on what I’ll have for fun when they ship me off to the home and I am drooling on more things than pillows.

ADDENDUM:

If you want to see a well done (elegant) program that charts stocks with an even more elaborate system for creating user designed formulas, take a look here. Simon – besides being a published author – has a hell of a program for a reasonable price with a demo version that gives you more for free than many commercial products provide. It isn’t crippled to the point of useless or loaded with nasty-ass splash screens. To boot, there is a nice collection of miscellaneous utilities that he gives away for free. And, he supports all of it with a mailing list where you get prompt responses. If you are interested in stocks or neat utilities, give it a stop.

So…I didn’t mention the Aces of the Kings or the Queens I picked up either. Natter-natter!
