I am in love with Amanda Leatherman
Seeing that it is strictly an old fart mode passion, Joe Sebok doesn’t have a worry here. She’s the PokerRoad’s seemingly blond bimbo interviewer. You can see that type on just about every poker site that does the TV interview format. They typically bring a shudder to my frame as they play off their obvious “Look, I’m a girl.” persona. I actually feel sorry for them. About the only difference in the lot is the globular sizing on display and the various tint jobs.

So, my expectations were pretty low when I saw “Joe’s Squeeze” was the hostess for their personality interviews. I have been more than pleasantly surprised. The best poker interviewer I’d seen to date is our own Craig Cunningham. He does his homework and it shows in his print interviews. Amanda shows similar quality in her video podcast.
Now she’s part of a group that includes Barry Greenstein — whose proven his intellect and played the people being interviewed. I’m sure some of those notes she refers to came with his help. So, one might think she’s more like the typical anchor on the news who’s brain is attached to a teleprompter. However, just the two portions I’ve seen indicate the girl is one who can think on her feet (couch actually) and react to the circumstances with good follow ups.
For whatever reason, she has brought more out of Daniel Negreenu than any other interviewer. That is pretty impressive. Danny seems to let it all hang out. You’d think everything about him is public knowledge. Yet, Amanda – for whatever reasons you wish to assign – has brought out parts of Daniel that haven’t floated anywhere near the top of his public persona. That impressed me.
If she can maintain the quality that I have seen to date, she’ll easily be and remain atop the interviewer list for the poker Internet TV shows. It’s a lot better than the average or the ideas in the graphic design given above — which doesn’t quite reach the standard of the Associated Press Stylebook. But then. neither does this blog.
ADDENDUM:
Wednesday was again a profitable day at the stud tables. It didn’t start off that way. I was frustrated in my first two sessions. The third session made up for it. It seemed close to the perfect storm. The best hand was a multiway pot that had some raising going where my tens full beat a sevens full hand. Recently I’ve lost with Kings full and Aces full. Today was my turn. But, I think the hand I am proudest of was where I didn’t continue past 4th street with my ratty 4 outer with aggressive play happening. I may grow up at the stud tables before senility hits. (+34 BB in last session)
Thursday was another day of making some profit at Full Tilt’s stud tables. Again, the first session was pretty topsy-turvy. It was about 100 hands – a bit longer than I normally play. I managed to get down two buy-ins before coming back and leaving with a 3 BB profit. The following session, later in the day, was juicy. I managed a great hand – flopping a boat in the first 5 – that saw two players willing to cap a round and three bet the next. I didn’t play very long and left up a dozen BB’s.
I actually feel I played much better in the first. I had a number of difficult hands play out. A typical one was getting top 2 and a caller that either made a straight on 6th street where I’d bet every street or making his gutshot on 7th. And that gutshot was the wheel. I wouldn’t think of it as a great hand to chase with against a serious better. There were a number of chase artistes at the table and they got to me with a bit of regularity early. Coming back there gave me a bit of satisfaction in my play. The second session was getting a few big hands in the right place. I love that but it doesn’t say I know the game. I also played a hand that I should have folded. It was an aggressive pot and I made a high straight that I felt I should lay down in the aggressive 4-way and couldn’t. I lost a nice pot that would have made for a much nicer take. Got what I deserved in that pot — second place.
