Physics
As an object in motion, I tend to remain in motion. At least until I am acted upon by an external force. (or an unbalanced internal one gone awry.) Boyle though talks about pressure and its ability to raise the heat. That seems a fair description for all of us. The primary isn’t a bad one to describe playing poker either.
Mr. Newton’s Laws on motion and Mr. Boyle’s laws on Thermodynamics combine nicely when thinking about the game of poker. We can’t codify our formula for poker success to the degree we can have an incontestable formula but we profit from tendancies.
It is easy to think about an object at rest and compare it to a calling station. But, many Loose Aggressive players are as prone to the flaw.

At the stud tables that is even more apparent than in the flop games. Some people just have to bet, complete and bluff in ways that are consistent. The keep doing the same things. They build the pressure constantly. A better player is one that is in motion and using a mixed bag of tricks. While the Super Aggressive may get a hand as frequently on average as the next guy, he is the most vulnerable player at the table. He is a slow play candidate of major proportions.
I’m looking for the right hands to play against him. They are the same hands I seek when the table is short. I like pairs. I’m not partial to drawing hands. The flop games play a bit different but stud tables have a different dynamic.
Reads can be turned into gold when we are predictable. If you are like our physicist friends with a formula approach, your vulneability extends far beyond the cards you are dealt. The Fancy Play Syndrome can bite any of us. But, isn’t it worse to be so ABC? You might as well play with your pocket cards exposed.
Objects in motion are a moving target. Objects at rest are big bull’s eyes. We need to make our gear changes and we need to make them consistent with the dynamics of the table we’re playing. When we are tired, tippling, or bored we tend toward a form of rest. When we’re alert and on our ‘A’ game, we are that moving target.
All this is Poker 101, but it is a part of the game that can come and go on our part. What is fortunate is that the people we are playing are typically far worse. That is the reason for this reminder. I am amazed at consistent lack of inconsistency that most player bring to the table. Study the other’s play but study your own as well. Conquer your tenancies and you’ll profit from those of others.
ADDENDUM:
Remember our push for Duplicate Poker? Well, they are back with $25,000 in Aussie Million Freerolls just for the folks who registered through our site. I seem to recall that one of the folks who took down the last Aussie play there made a darn nice cash placement. Throw a couple of bucks on the site and maybe you’ll be their next millionaire. It is great heads up practice for taking it all from down under. The first one is Dec. 8 at 1300EST.

Dobrosoft Ltd, the online poker software supplier, has announced the launch of the Gold Chip Network, the company’s new online poker network.
Dobrosoft, which was acquired last year by the Digital Gaming Network (DGN) for an undisclosed sum, has now separated from DGN, reacquiring its assets from the company and launching the Gold Chip Network.
DGN has been closely associated with Futurebet and has suffered due to negative publicity surrounding payouts to customers. By reacquiring Dobrosoft, the management hope to distance themselves from DGN and focus on building a successful poker network. – G.I.G.
