I Guess I am a Sexist To Boot

I’m not a politically correct kind of guy. I rather enjoy minority views. I even enjoy the off-the-wall ideas that often result. Keeps the world going in Technicolor.

My rant for today is over an article I saw first here by Jenifer Newel about the Women’s Poker Hall of Fame.

I don’t have a problem until we get to their 3rd qualifier:

  1. Player/industry leader must be a proponent of women’s poker. Even is [sic] she does not play in women only events, she must support them.

Now that’s just wrong in my book. And, the vale is not thin; it is missing between the ladies of LIPS and their target – Annie Duke. Annie considers it a second class type of citizenship in these events. I don’t have a problem with them or a seniors or hotel employee event being included in a program. But it is a segregationist view and if someone wants to point that out they have a right.

Whether it is a teenage Hawaiian cutey or Annie, the line has blurred in a number of areas. That includes a few that’ll shock the chauvinist crowd. Damn fine in my book. But, combining the records at track or the Olympics without regards to sex is wrong too.

Can women compete at poker against the men? Well, they have already proven that. Ratio would indicate that they’ve had more final table success than the odds provide. The problem doesn’t seem to be they need a separate record book here. The problem is they need to attract more women to play. LIPS doing that with their tournament schedule is laudable. If that leads to an estrogen influenced table persona, so be it. But, it also provides a place for the cream to rise to the next level. Nothing wrong with any of that. That is sexism on a good level.

I don’t have a problem with inducting women who contribute to poker without taking a seat. All the ’sports’ halls have their fat (in multiple ways) inductees. These ‘non-profits’ blur that line with impunity. Most real Hall of Famers are actually inducted without fanfare by 10 year olds and that honor remains for the life of the child to adult. Canton et al are just PR promotions trying to capitalize on that human event. If you were a kid in Cincinnati in the 60’s, Charley Hustle made your Hall of Fame years ago and nothings going to change that.

What is tasteless is the outlawing of a dissident voice. That is fascism. I don’t care for that – even when it touts my particular views. That turns you from ladies to bimbos in my book. And a BIPS Tour just doesn’t have as solid a ring to it.

ADDENDUM:

There is a copy writer on craigslist.com that seems to have cut his teeth in blogdom:

The bedrooms have overhead fans with generous closet space.

I feel so close to him somehow. Of coarse, it may not be a hymn.

I do wonder where they got those fans; I could use a bit more closet space.

How do you make 18.50 at a .25-.50 stud table in a short session? By having the deck hit you over the head.

During current Stud session you were dealt 29 hands and:

- saw fourth street 14 times (48%)

- saw fifth street 11 times (37%)

- saw sixth street 8 times (27%)

- reached showdown 8 times (27%)

Pots won at showdown - 6 of 8 (75%)

Pots won without showdown – 0

It was a great table full of calling stations. It included some optimists even when I had quads on the river and a boat before. I actually completed with JQ J. With boat and quads during the play, you don’t see a lot of bricks. I was betting every street with multiple callers.

I’d had a bit of a setback the previous two days. Nothing serious but saw a lot of hands to fold. I didn’t hemorrhage; it was a lot of little cuts. I’ve about doubled up on Stars in a week or so.

Nice article by Jordan. He seems to have one of the blogs that I enjoy more. Oh, and BTW he is evidently a Jew. (Jopke) I wish I’d stolen wrote his latest. It is the other side for those with a Hunter Thompson addiction. Seems that we all approach the game with two personalities that conflict. Usually it is more talk than walk but other times we lose direction for a while. Maybe some can make that work – at least for a while. I know I can’t. Seems Jordan is of the same opinion.
