Maxi-Venting
A young player is trying to get a handle on freerolls in the Chasing Chris blog here. I think she’s making strong improvements. Today, she vented on the unfairness of it all – AKA The Card Fairy. She used the term “Good things come to those who wait.” with her tongue firmly planted in her cheek and that the way to approach those old saws. It is often true but often in tournaments that can mean days, weeks and even months. A tournament is a single opportunity. It comes with assigned seating and the only choice is to play at that time and place. If the bell curve of normal distribution puts you on the left and lower quality side of the curve, that can take a great deal of time to overcome. Even if you are getting the normal splatter, it can wax and wane at the damnedest times.
This all means that at times you are destined to fail. Call it wait or perseverance but it is annoying at best. If you’ve read Carmen’s blog, you seen some of the other horrors with better hands going down the tubes with regularity. That’s been your fate at times.
I don’t sweat a lot of tables but friends were playing in a big, two-day, large stack tournament. The guy was aggressive as they come. The girl played a Tight-Aggressive. He really built a stack of chips early on. She was a folding machine. He left before she did. But, she was at least into the second day. She’d done it with next to nothing and still wasn’t able to get good hands. Managed a steal here and there but she was jinxed. In the forum we all frequented, I said she was the best player I’d observed in the tournament. It wasn’t genius. She just got as far as she could with what was dealt.
Some day are like that. You can’t let that discourage you. Sooner or later the ol’ worm turns. If you keep it screwed on straight, it will be your day.
ADDENDUM:
In the ugly world of online poker, there comes the contention that there is a super user account on Ultimate Bet. I have no idea if that is fact. But, it is owned by Absolute which will bring all the grassy knoll crowd out of the woodwork. It probably had to happen, regardless of how true it is or isn’t. That is the dark side of the net.
——————-
I continue to do well on PokerStars. The stud has been soft with a lot of super aggressive in the mix. This morning I wasn’t really in the mode for that. Normally, I embrace it. So, I moved tables and made money on two others. In the last two weeks, I’m up over $100 playing .25-.50 Stud.
