FL & MI
Three candidates, two parties, and two states seem as broken as our nation. We fixate on minutia and fail to recognize what is broken – hopefully not beyond repair.
In civics and history, our story was pounded into our heads. We heard the rant of Federalist and honored the sweat and passion of a Constitutional Convention that created a unique paper. Mediocre, overpaid teachers are still forced by canned lesson plans to foist some of that on the current generation.
DNC and RNC are King George. They are the remote leaders that dictate the tax on tea. These are one of the powers that makes a farce of one man one vote. You remember that one from sixth grade civics, don’t you? Well, tell it to the people in Florida and Michigan. Unelected committees representing political entities have subverted our basic rights. As a people we fix on the sound bites and miss the pestulance.
Our founders had a tea party over a silly tax that didn’t mean much. They were principled individuals that looked beyond the the simple facts and simple solutions. Today, we can’t get past the simple facts. The media has seconds to minutes to tell us their assignment. Even on the newspaper’s net site we’ve become a nation of synopsis and sound bite.,
If you look beyond Michigan and Florida, you stumble finally across the problem. One man with one vote is a modern myth. The national parties – funded by special interests – can dictate ones political future. When one foolishly decides to run for office, they go to the local committee which is part of the state and then national with the purse strings. If you don’t conform to the wing of a party in control, you’ve at steep road. Although, the only obvious help or hindrance appears if you’re troublesome or close to winning and need some form of a hand. That is a string of attack ads funded by those fine folks in D.C.
My generation is checking out. From what I can tell, we were the last one to get the hard line idea of what it took to create this nation. We lauded the melting pot instead of being politically correct honorers of ethnicity. It tempered the law abiding aspect we also had pounded into our heads. Today, the law abiding idea is trumps. That is becoming Orwellian.
Don’t anguish over three candidates. They really don’t count. Anguish over the party structures that wield the real power. In Michigan and Florida they have trumped the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. And this politically correct society is too distracted to find the n-word in the woodpile.
ADDENDUM:
It is almost 4:30 AM. I stared at the clock radio saying 3:09 with this idea keeping me awake. When I was younger, I could sleep and not want to get up. As time means more, sleep get interfered with like this. I guess I regret the time and waste of youthful optimism and being able to say tomorrow with confidence. As the clock winds down for my generation, I truly wonder where it is all headed. We get national coverage of an unwed, illegal alien mom in a storefront church. I don’t deny anyone a voice. I just don’t understand why we can ignore the documents, people and laws that created what we are or were.
