I just bought a bridge

Honest! I wasn’t familiar with the term until the weekend. It looked neat so I hit the net and found it for about 20% less than I saw in the advertising. It isn’t in Brooklyn but it is from close by in New Yawk City.It is a bridge camera. That is basically a DSLR without the interchangeability of the lens. It is an equivalent 33 to 398 zoom or about 12X. It will do ISO 3200 at 3-Meg or 1600 at the max of 10-Meg.

With shipping and everything it was $201. You can look at the specs for the Fuji S1000fd. I used to be fairly serious about photography. I have a Nikon with 3 lens in the closet and a Bessler enlarger in the shed.

I’d bought a couple of $100 snapshot digitals over the years. Not much going for them but I wasn’t asking for a lot. They served fairly well.

The camera has a lot of automatic automagic. But, it also has a manual mode so I can play with depth of field and such. ISO 1600 is faster than I normally used in film. That usually maxed at 400. I did a bit at 12-1600 but it wasn’t a frequent thing.

I couldn’t see spending much more. Amazon had a nice deal on rechargeable batteries with a charger that I picked up. That and my current 1-Gig SD card should make a usable system. I think the SD card is fast enough. If not, I’ll pick up a 2-Gig one.

It is small and lightweight. That’ll be nice. The Nikon seemed like a boat anchor at the end of a day of hauling it around. The lens isn’t that fast but the ‘film’ should cover me on that.

I guess Linda inspired me but she didn’t get me to go whole hog. But, this seems like a decent setup. The model is just out so there isn’t a lot of info or user info out there. Fuji is a decent name and the glass should be adequate. If you want to go over the top, glass (len) is what you shop for along with a decent CCD. I about a B as I see it.

Hope to see it before the weekend. Not sure what to break it in on but I’ll find something as the weather comes around. It has to come around. The weekend really sucked here. Linda, I don’t want to hear about the gorgeous weekend you had.

If I can get off my duff this summer, I want to take the tour of Pinhook bog. It is part of the National Lakeshore Park and run by the park rangers. It has Pitcher Plants and other oddities along with Orchids in the nutrient weak waters of a peat bog.

ADDENDUM:

Well, a day shy of the deadline, I have my taxes in. Since I retired there ain’t no such thing as a refund. Went up this year a bit too. State taxes really jumped. So, why am I buying a new camera. To go with my new laptop, I guess. Just doing my bit to avoid a recession.
