Poker Perambulation

No, this isn’t my weekly homage to Fuel55. It is Day 1 of 55 poker tournaments that are being held in an obscure meadow in an underpopulated – with reason – state. Yes, today kicks off the Word Series of Poker.

What was present in the wee hours of this morning was unbounded optimism. It is the stuff of dreams and for a few a new life changing event. Hopefully, this year you-know-who even has its act together. We won’t see the long lines. We won’t have folks playing in poker purgatory.

Promise may even turn to fact. It appears the folks gathering all our gilt the rake are going to try to be a bit more user friendly. In fact, it seems they’re really trying to get better. Months from now we’ll know if they succeeded as we transition from summer to the Thanksgiving time finale.

Will every poker blog be on their standard WSOP rant come Monday? Can Harrahs get it right through Tuesday? I think there can be a bit more optimism that the later may even carry beyond that Tuesday. But, last year they were touting their registration system before the event and it didn’t even take a day to rip that to shreds.

Players and spectators alike approach this time with anticipation. The last few years the satisfied have been limited to a collection of a few drunks with fuzzy memories, guys with names like Moneymaker and Yang, and the counting room supervisor at the Rio. It always seem there should be a lot more but Harrahs manages to jinx that. Hopefully, they can at least be neutral as this all plays out.

The European Commission is launching a formal investigation into the US ban on online gambling.

The Commission has sent a list of questions to US officials aimed at finding out if the US policy is discriminatory against European firms or not.
