Time flies when you are having fun.

Nowhere is that more apparent than in the hallowed halls of our congress. It was fun attaching the UIGEA to the ports bill. It was fun offloading responsibility from government to the private sector – namely banks.

So, it comes as little surprise to find that some fun – except at the strip clubs – is cheap. And cheap doesn’t factor in quality. The result is : H.R. 5767 is intended to prohibit the Department of the Treasury and Federal Reserve System from proposing, prescribing or implementing any regulations related to the current ban on Internet gambling, as required by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA). Frank’s House Committee on services has studied this issue and heard from the financial services community and federal regulators that the current ban on Internet gambling is burdensome and doomed to fail.

It seems that the zealots, after lumping poker in with casual sex, decision for an abortion really came true. The UIGEA is still born and Frisk and Leach. The latter was voted out in the last election with the swing vote being disgruntled Iowa poker players.

The following congressmen have signed onto the new bill thus far:

    Gary L. Ackerman (D-NY)

    Shelley Berkley (D-NV)

    William Lacy Clay (D-MO)

    Bob Filner (D-CA)

    Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL)

    Michael Honda (D-CA)

    Peter T. King (R-NY)

    James McGovern (D-MA)

    James Moran (D-VA)

    Robert Wexler (D-FL)

It is time to give your congressmen an email to show support for the above bill along with the other Frank legislation to regulate online poker — H.R. 5767 was introduced by Reps. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Ron Paul (R-Texas) April 11, 2008.

ADDENDUM:

I’m really looking forward to the $50K HORSE tournament that runs mid-week. If I were attending, it’d have been in that time frame.
