Bluffing up 28.7% — News at 6

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

No, not at my tables – although sometimes it feels like it. Poker is certainly about bluffing. But, doing that isn’t any guarantee of success. Out in the real world, the bluff works much better. Collectively we are a gullible lot. Playing a bit of poker should reduce that a bit. But, the goal everywhere is to be +EV and a lot of situations in the real world will only do that on a bluff. Iggy found to be the source of all evil

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I sure wasn’t expecting to learn that when I went browsing the Internet. But, it is obvious that is the fact. Usually, good and evil contend against each other. But, it is also obvious that in Iggy’s case, it is evil versus EVIL – or something like that.

Best TV

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Well, High Stakes Poker is back and the WPT found a network. ESPN has kicked into WSOP mode. PokerStars has their own network on the net. I don’t think that the best TV is on any of them although it is on PokerStars. (more…)

They play like little girls

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Hey, I didn’t say that. It is in the blog blurb about the Chasing Chris gang. There is an article by JB Harshaw on the site that has that idea or theme and tells it well. Go read this article and then come back. (more…)

BB BS

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Remember I said I had one ready to post and then all this silliness by Harrahs gave me fodder. Well, it is time to let it out into the world…

No, that title is not sending crypto secrets to my Al Qaida handler.* I am talking big bet and expectations. (more…)

Value

Friday, July 25th, 2008

It is what we seek. Even more so when it comes to major purchases. Having just paid a whorehouse price for a washer-dryer combo, I may not be the one to listen to at the moment. At the tables though, value betting is paramount. (more…)

Low Level Cash Game’s Dirty Little Secret

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

This is going to be a problem article. There’s a one line answer. As soon as I make the point, the rest of the blog is annoyingly superfluous. What am I worried about? Most of my blogs can reach than point without stopping for a breath. (more…)

Mucking Out Stable Play

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

I enjoy reading Glenda’s stuff. When she wins she isn’t full of herself. When she loses she looks at her game before looking elsewhere. I think all there fixate on their competition more than is prudent. But, let’s face it, we all do that. Just what do we have control of in life and poker? Hindsight always shows us it was more than we’d thought and less than we’d like. (more…)

Card Fairy has started moonlighting

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Her main job has been to make your and my life a roller coaster at the tables. But, that’s evidently gotten too easy. So, the little minx went looking for part-time work. She found it close by – saving serious gasoline costs. She taken on the job of adding spice to the WSOP and the lives of the suits at Harrahs/Caesars and ESPN and the rest of the cast. Collectively, all that can be called: “The Poker Boom.” (more…)

Be careful what you wish for

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Isn’t that’s one of those Chinese curses that the Chinese know nothing about or translates to something that makes no sense in English like “Your duck has fleas.”?  But, it has to be on the minds of Harrahs’ Jeff Pollack and ESPN. (more…)
