Hogan’s Heroes

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Does the name “Greg Hogan” ring a bell? Maybe you remember his fire-and-brimstone Daddy – the one the kid didn’t feel he could turn to for help. Well, he’s gotten out of the clink and daddy will have a renewed chance to preach to his prodigal son. Sadly, I doubt that sermon will be about improving parenting. (more…)

(No All-In)

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

That is a ‘new feature’ of PokerStars. And it sucks royally. The Internet and more important server farms and ISP’s try to be 5-9’s. In some areas they are. Overall, online poker ain’t 5-9’s.

If you haven’t heard the term before, 5-9’s is the old Bell System standard for up time. It is: 99.999% reliable. (more…)

Multi-accounting – another scandal?

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

I guess. But, what is clear? Can a case be made for multiple accounts? I have multiple accounts. I only use the one and have had multiples for a variety of reasons that won’t send me to the slammer or purgatory. Mea Culpa? I guess…if you insist… (more…)

Dear John, I’m writing you this letter

The last blog talked about losing the poker issue in the RNC platform. I said “Color me dubious.” and I was right. It is back. The PPA –with their bad advice of the other day to post to the platform committee –  now want me to write McCain; I can do that. (more…)

is a common saying. How do we play those premium and the not so? The grouping used by Sklansky/Malmuth in their book can be argued. But then what can’t? (more…)

S as in Sklansky?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

My addendum comments about Bayne_S’ final hand got more comments from the engineering side of his brain. He sought clarity in his background. At least it is more current than my required course side that lead to “Stix” and “Calc” with the order reversed for course requirements. Fuzzy is – these days – an accurate statement of my Sklansky side. (more…)

Math v. Mood is a constant at the tables and in the forums. You will attract trolls strongly supporting either method. When we learn we tend toward supporting the math side. And that is the best place to start. It is a foundation. Buildings and players need that. But, like the foundation for a new house, it is just the starting point. (more…)

My view from Olympus

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Yeah, it hooked me. My jaded self keeps noting the self-serving dictators callow violation of the games created by the world’s first democracy. OK, I acknowledge that the Chinese women’s team is a pedophile’s dream. When Phelps is in starting position, my concentration is on his heel to see if his mom too failed to dunk him properly. Evidently, she did better than Achilles’ mom did. And, she seems to know it after each swim — even the Hollywood choreographed finish last evening. (more…)

Poker Tracker Stud

Friday, August 15th, 2008

It is a program that is being sold to poker players. Should you consider buying it? I have to say NO! While many players love to quote their VP$IP and so on, the information is cursory and somewhat inaccurate.  It has important and useful data that comes wrapped in frustration.
