Aud Lang Syne

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Yes, it is that time of the year. It is New Year’s resolution times. For those who don’t play poker, it is a time to promise to quit smoking or take of 30 pounds. But, we poker players are making our resolutions on a near daily basis. New Year’s day is nothing special in that regard. (more…)

Rather be Otis … or … (What are friends?)

Monday, December 31st, 2007

A lot of decent, blogging players I run across. That really became obvious when I read the latest puff piece on Phil Helmuth. It is one of those Entertainment Tonight kind of pieces in our articles section. (more…)

The Ladies aka Chris Ferguson’s Harem

Monday, November 19th, 2007

I was, honestly, a bit dubious about the project. You can spend some boringly funny hours accomplishing very little playing freerolls. The rate of return isn’t as good as my first job and that took down a cool .50 per hour. Although, that’d get you 2 gallons of gas at the time. But, I’ll confess to a guilty pleasure of doing them on occasion; but as a project? Kinda iffy. (more…)

I want to KILL that Mother…

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

You are sitting at this nice table. You’ve got a great comfort level going and you’re up a nice number of big blinds. Its been a session where you haven’t had to make a lot of hard or close decisions. Then the maniac shows up and that turns on the maniac gene for one or two of the guys you’d had donating to your cause. DAMN! (more…)

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

If you visit any forum, you’ll find a thread on bankroll. You can see JB’s articles on managing one in our articles section. Geiststaat also has articles here on the subject. But, there is a bankroll that isn’t really covered and that’s what I want to talk about. (more…)

Going to H.H.

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

No, I don’t mean Hell-in-a-Handbasket. I want to discuss Hand Histories. C.C. has a interest in them of late. A lot of blogger use them. If a magician was also a poker player, he’d understand hand histories. His stock in trade is deception. (more…)

In the Fun House

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

The carnivals and fairs always had a fun house in my youthful world. Most cost a dime to go through. There would be a floor that jumped and jiggled around; a barrel rotating on its side; a blast of air for the girl’s skirts. All that and more for one, thin dime – the tenth part of a dollar. (more…)

Beyond Vanilla

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

I know I promote a vanilla game in the blog more than I play it. Without that game you can’t play the other. We are in the realm of gear changes and taking what is offered. Implied odds enters our thinking. We’re adding some gamble to the gameplan. (more…)

Pot Limit

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Our site has the results and an article on the pot limit tournament over in our WSOP coverage on the main page. As it points out, pot limit is more a European love than it is here. But, the online sites have it available and it is an interesting variation that too many play as though it were no limit. That is a mistake. (more…)

More Fuel on the Fire

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Fuel55 has been sending me some interesting synopsis hand histories. They don’t detail much ”” static hand histories never do. (more…)
