What a fabulous football match. The much-maligned hero finally taking down the multiple Title-winners after years of failure.
Of course, I’m talking about Liverpool beating Chelsea 2-0 for their first League win against the Holders in two-and-a-half years.
The result pulled the Reds to within five points of the second-place Blues, a significant number, since that’s how many points Garth gave me in our (fictional) pre-season (pretend) wager. All square with 14 fixtures left. Fifty (fake) dollars on the line. Game on!
Naturally, there was plenty more football played this weekend. Arsenal got two late to peg back leaders ManU, much to The Rooster’s delight. On Saturday, AJ and I went to Home Depot Center to see the US ‘B’ team beat the Danish ‘B’ team, 3-1. The most satisfying moment of the whole weekend was watching Henry head in the winner against Manchester United. Not even watching pretty boy Brady not convert on a drive with a minute left or the Patriot defense give up 32 points in the second half even comes close to watching Arsenal win.
Keep living in your Liverpool dreamland, although a spot in the Champion’s League is there’s for the taking. BTW, Matt Matros is a huge, huge soccer fan. We’ve been back and forth a bunch during World Cup times, and I cashed in his World Cup pool (which was won by a Brazilian, if you can believe that).
