Let’s Play Two!

One of the best aspects of having a child is marking milestones with them, those important moments that make you realize your son is growing up. Baby’s first step. Baby’s first smile. Baby’s first successful bowel movement in the toilet.

Over the weekend, AJ took another step on the road to adolescence and beyond.

(Which would shortly be followed by baby’s first use of a protective cup as an oxygen mask. Sadly, no photographic proof exists.)

I was initially surprised by the flyer for T-Ball Camp, which insisted every boy needed a cup. I was 10 before I used one (shut up, Bob). How the hell am I gonna find a cup small enough for a 5-year-old, let alone one as slight as my boy? Not to mention his total aversion to uncomfortable garments. I can’t even get him to wear “lumpy” socks. Recalling my days on the Little League fields, I remembered the chafing, the constant adjustments, the necessity of developing a slightly more blow-legged running style. This would never fly, I was pretty sure.

    Ahhh, yes… bonding…
    I would suggest Instaglue but the 5-minute epoxy does a nice job too.

    As a Little League manager of three years duration, let me tell you that your son staying focused for two hours hints of Buddha-like powers of concentration for one so young. Have you considered that he may be the next Dalai Lama?

    My son is bowling left-handed at the moment… still trying to get him to start throwing that way too.
