Let nobody say I am not a man of ideas (or a fan of the double negative). I’ve been stuck for things to write. I write for a poker site.
Play poker. And write about it.
DING!
Back in the old days, I used to get a little drunk, play a tourney, live-blog it, get a lot drunk and degenerate into non-sequiters. People seemed to like it okay. So I’m bringing it back, with the caveat that I could be out in 10 minutes.
I get to work from home tomorrow, meaning an alarm ringing two full hours later. So curfew is waived this evening and I’m pulling up a seat in the $12K Guaranteed on Full Tilt.
10:00 p.m.: We have 573 runners, 54 places paid and a prize pool of $13,752 paying $3438 for first and $61.89 for 23rd, which is where I predict I finish.
10:01: Cards are in the air and the first hand is folded around to the BB. I get 99 on the second hand and my 3.5x raise takes the blinds. Tight group or just missing?
10:02: I am eschewing the Angry Monkey icon these days. Life is just too damn good, so my avatar is merely pleasent.
10:04: Current beverage of choice is Lonach Single Malt Scotch. Have I mentioned how awesome this stuff is? Each glass gets better than the last and with a third of the bottle left, I think I’ve finally learned how not to slam it. We have a popourri of stray beers down in the bullpen.
10:05: Definitely tight. Guy makes a min. raise and although he got callers on the button and in the blinds, his 90 bet (into a 240 pot) takes it down.
10:09: I have found my mark. He’s currently sitting on T3700 after two sexy suckouts. I was rooting for him in the second (he did have 10 river outs when it all went in on the turn) because I wanted him to stick around. He’s been the aggressor in both with marginal hands, so I lie quietly in the weeds.
10:12: Called a 3x raise in the CO with 77 and folded on the two overcard flop with a bet and raise in front. And yeah, I made it past Level I.
10:15: For non-poker entertainment, I’m listening to XM radio through my DirecTV. The Boneyard. Channel 830.
Well done, Speaker.
When I listen to XM, I almost always listen to The Boneyard.
Nice run, Speaker! Thanks for taking us along for the ride!
Tears in my eyes …
Enjoyed this immensly. Especially the update at 10:42:15: – hilarious.
Nice. Can I borrow $50?
Try http://www.hardradio.com. It’s pretty sweet. Nice to know there are other guys out there who listen to 80s metal while they play poker.
Who doth question the continuation bet?
So, how do I get my 5%. Nice run, Speaker. I don’t know about you, but sometimes live blogging actually gets me to play better, mostly because even though I am distracted by typing, I am also paying more attention at the table naturally as I gather content and process it for the live blog.
I miss you.
Seriously! Why does my bat-phone not go off when you’re making a tourney run? You know, it wasn’t that long ago that all the boys wanted me at their virtual sides when they played teh poker, but now not so much. I had no idea turning 30 would be so rough…
and welcome to the reason you’re the only person who can properly live-blog a poker tournament.
meat scented glasses. that would be a kickass name for a band.
You don’t have to give her half, but child support would go waaaaaaaaaay up.
I didn’t win. Nobody did. But I won’t play the Lottery tomorrow ’cause Wes is a Buzzkill.
Today is national "Get over it" day.

This is a holiday of which I firmly approve.
Happy Get Over It day, you ungrateful, incessantly-complaining overly-PC cocks.
Kenny…love to read your stuff…but man, you need some vacation time. Come to San Diego and you can have some time off here (wiht three girls) and a beer drinking friend.
