Sunday, Drunky Sunday

Hell Week is over. It really hasn’t been that hard. Over the weekend, I had just one moment where the urge to smoke was strong.

My own damn fault for playing Razz.

The WPBT Event last night on Full Tilt coincided with the start of my Fantasy Baseball Draft. I made the opening bell by spare minutes after a day at Santa Anita race track. It was definitely an afternoon for sports and gambling.

And beer. But the beer didn’t put me on No Smoking Tilt. Not on Sunday or on Saturday night when I ramped up the Newcastle consumption to dangerous levels. Here’s a handy tip for those of you who might be considering getting off tobacco: Your first couple alcohol buzzes will be really cool and different.

I’d like to blame that gathering buzz for my failures at the track, but it was more due to a 35-1 shot coming in and wrecking my trifecta. Naturally, I had sought the sage advice of BG and, thanks to his notes, I hit the winner in the first race and the Daily Double, putting me up nicely early. In the second, I talked myself out of the a win bet on the top finisher, a maiden who won from the rail as the longest shot (7-1) in a short field. So even though my Double came in, I was still pizzissed.

The sun was lovely, the sundress of my companion even lovelier, though she was terrible at selecting horses based on the names. Total nags at every turn. Not that I fared any better. I had a live Pick 3 ticket after hitting two favorites, but failed to complete it in the 5th, the race which was my Waterloo. I’d not bet the 4th because of the small field and overwhelming favorite (who won like she was out for an afternoon jog), spending the time at the bar

Good job staying with it, Speaker. Continue to give yourself a pass on the food for a couple of weeks.

Then we’ll start to talk about running.

Nice work. And you really did push it by playing RAZZ for God sakes. I love that game but it’s a tilter.

Sorry ’bout the horse and razz tilt, but it sounds like it was a good time regardless. Hope you & AJ are having fun here in Diego.
