The Best Laid Plans…

The second half of mine and AJ’s Spring Break Road Trip has been cancelled due to an inclement X. I’m never gonna be rid of that bitch am I?

Regardless, if there’s one thing I learned over the past year-plus, it’s that whole thing about door closing and windowns opening. Last night’s window was a blogger table at Full Tilt

I was knee-deep in the $11 Re-Buy on Poker Stars (Window #1), a long-time favorite tournament of mine, but one I have ignored for a while, due to bankroll considerations. While I’m not one to re-buy a dozen times (like a lot of folks), it can get expensive. Fortunately for me, I got in for the “minimum” ($31) and was stacked at T18K after the re-buy period. I had the kind of table where everything got paid off, including my top set. Twice.

Around the middle of the second hour, Daddy alerted me that he was playing .05/.10 NL with drizz and Al on Full Tilt. Well, that right there is my idea of a good time (and the level fits with my bankroll), so I jumped into the queue. While waiting, I lost half my stack in the Re-Buy with QQ v. AA. There’s been a couple times lately where I’ve been completely wrong about huge overbets. When I pop it to 700 (100/200 level) and someone comes over the top for 6K more, I don’t put that person on aces. I put ‘em on a middle pair or AK. Because why would you want to push everyone out with AA?

Unless, of course, there are idiots at the table like me who will go ahead and call.

I made those chips back in short order with AA against 99 who figured his pair was good and pushed over my re-re-raise. Danke.

I finally got my seat with the boys and proceeded to donk off a few bucks while the vultures began to circle. Veneno, smokkee and fluxer appeared on the rail and soon after joined the game. The latter two proceeded to contest every pot (only a slight exaggeration). Blogger ring games are one of my favorite poker experiences and I don’t say that ’cause I left the table with nearly $50 after a couple hours.

What can I say? Sometimes I have cards.

On the other hand, sometimes cards don’t matter. In the re-Buy, I was into the third hour, with the money

Boo, donkeys who call with any two suited cards.

    Hooray, beer!

I was in San Diego (Paradise Point on Mission Bay, no less) from 3/24 through 3/27 and can report that you didn’t miss much weather wise. Unless you count 60 degree temperatures and wind storms creating eight inch deep sand drifts on the street outside the Green Flash as nice weather, that is. Shamu was swell, however, but Journey to Atlantis was shut down for maintenance.
