It’s Not You, It’s Me
My online poker hiatus is in full effect. I did donk around over the weekend, managing one cash in Full Tilt’s $10 Re-Buy, which doesn’t get a nickname yet (like the ones on Stars and the long-lamented Paradise), because it was pretty reasonable in field size and play.
But aside from that, I was mostly terrible and the last online hand I will play probably for the rest of the month (largely due to travel and other commitments) will be a perfect reminder why I should take a little break.
Betting into the nuts, repeatedly, against a player with whom you are knowledgable, have, in fact, played similar hands against and should know when you are beat, but continue forward like a boulder rolling downhill…
That equals train wreck, just like the sentence above.
So yeah, when Garthski smooth-called me on the flop and min-raised me on the turn, shoulda been a pretty easy laydown in the MATH tourney on Monday. I’d still have had just over the starting stack of chips and we were barely into the second hour. Instead, I called the min-raise and pushed on a river that didn’t help me.
I picked the wrong week to give up intelligence.
Or did I? I’m leaving for Chicago early Friday morning and based on the flurry of e-mails and the events on tap, it seems a sure bet things are gonna get a little bit stupid. Note to self: If somebody pulls out cards and chips, find something else to do, lest your bankroll shrinks like Vinnie Vinh.
Aside from the travel, there’s also my fancy new laptop which I will get today. As mind-boggling as it sounds, computers these days do not come with online poker sites already loaded. To keep myself from temptation (aka 4 a.m. bombing raids on the $100NL tables or airport lounge Sit and Gos), I’m not going to download the sites until I return from New York on July 1.
I’ll be 40 then. And hopefully a little smarter.

If it makes you feel better I built my stack up before giving it all away on the BBT points bubble in act of abject donkey-ism.
Wait… that probably didn’t make you feel better. I’ll buy you a beer on Friday!
