Fifty-Fifty

What is the odds this gets posted?

What is me repeating the number of scotchs drunk because I’m wasted?

What is my new favorite tournament on Full Tilt?

If you ansered the last, you are correct, and hereby given permission to skip the following live blog. The rest of you are stuck AND you’ll have to stay after school and clean erasers.

6:30 p.m.: We have 1,086 runners at $50 (+5) a pop for a prize pol of $54,300. 153 places paid and and $10,376.73 for first.

6:37: I flop (764 rainbow) top pair with Q7 in the BB and bet the pot. One call and then a push. I fold (duh) and the guy shows 66 for the set. Lost 120 there, but we start out with 2K chips in this thinghee AND 10/20 blinds AND 12-minute levels. Hence, my love.

6:40: Looks like you’re gonna needs hands round these parts. Already lost one (QQ into AA) and another just got felted with an over-pair to a flopped set, though caling the bet on the river with four to a straight out there on a paired board was pretty sketchy. So, I suppose if I hit a flop, I’ll get paid.

6:41: We’re into the Jameson’s tonight to start. The whiskey is on a strict pith limit, so the Hefeweitzens in the fridge are likely to get some work.

6:42: Avatar tale of the tape: Two gnomes, a gecko, Morris Thorpe, Mike Tyson, pirate, Angry Monkey, shark, rock.

6:44: I got moved. T1870

6:46: Tonight’s music selection is the iPod shuffle. I got some Bose speakers a couple weeks ago for the new Mac Book and can now make the walls shake in the manner Bruce Dickenson intended.

6:47: Two bustouts so far and both signalled their exits with an “F U.” Not feeling the love.

6:49: Love those extra starting chips. Lose a chunk when AKs is called in two places and my c-bet on a whiffed flop (QJx) is check called by the BB. I’m done with the hand, but get a free river, which misses me and I fold to a pot bet. T1515 at Level 2 (15/30).

6:53: Someone once told me that the odds of a flop coming all one suit of not only a different suit but a different color than the suited cards I’m holding is 1.7%. Seems like it happens a lot more often than that. Also, my AKs was hearts and the last flop was all black. What are the odds of that? For me, I’d say around 80%.

6:57: I might be a donk, but I nearly doubled up. Re-raised a raise and call with AsKs and got a call from the short stack. Whiffed completely, all baby cards, two clubs and the shortie pushed for about 75% of the pot. I called confidenty and he showed KcTc. I dodged the 12 outs. A case of me picking a hand and going with it and rightly thinking the shorite was gambling by calling pre-flop (and hoping he didn’t have 33).

7:00: You know what? Fuck it. People who’ve played with me know don’t over-play Big Slick. What a call! T2685

7:02: Oh…and right before my near-double, the guy who check-called my c-bet earlier cracked AA with KJ and played it the same way. Just called on flop (KQx) and turn bets, then pushed when he rivered the jack. Another good read!

7:09: The only thing that’s happened in the last 9 minutes is I poured myself another scotch.

7:10: The guy who cracked AA has nearly 9K chips after cracking AK with AQ. This guy’s the target.

7:13: If you’re scoring at home, that’s 3 AKs that failed to connect. Got all-in with a shortie pre-flop (I raised a limper to 225, he pushed behind for 580 total), and QQ held up. None of my suit on the board, if you’re wondering. Back to the beginning. T2020.

7:19: We’ve reached the last level of the first hour, which is stil only 30/60, meaning my “starting” stack has an M of over 20. It’s below par by about 1100, but more than 40% of the field is out already. I’m telling you people, this tourney’s got a lot of play.

7:22: Usually, the structure dictates playing some hands this first hour that wil pay off if they hit, your suited connectors and baby pairs, but haven’t had any of those. Seen five flops, two in the BB.

7:25: I can’t remember the last time I’ve wielded a big stack. And it’s been ages since I won some big pots in the first hour. Maybe that’s why I like this ‘un. Because I can be patient. And this give me more room to do so.

7:28: Fuck. Flop every draw in the book (and one over) from the BB and bet on flop and turn, but I a) can’t push out the guy who flopped second pair with four-kicker, nor can I hit one of my 18 outs. T1470.

7:31: Still an M of 13 when we come back from break, but !@#$%$#@^%^.

7:35: I stand 539 of 607 with 40% of par. This is where I work my short stack magic. Despite the symbols above, a scotch and a breath of fresh balcony air has stemmed the tide of tilt.

7:40: It occurs to me that, just over an hour into the tournament, the best hand I’ve made is the one pair on the flop in the first hand I played. That’s gotta turn around, right?

7:42 (and continuing): A microcosm: T7o, J5o, 72o, J4o, T3o, 42o, Q2o, (there will be no more entires until I play a hand), 73o, J4o (this is not a small sample size; it’s exactly what I’ve been dealt all game), T4o, 99!

7:52: I call a raise with it and three others(!) call behind. AQ4 flop. Lovely. T 1140. Push there? Perhaps.

7:53: AJs! I push over a raiser! K9x flop! He has K9! Shocker!

8:00: Pardon me while I go tilt off my bankroll.

8:02 Not really. $10+1 90-person Sng. $10+1 MTT.

“Someone once told me that the odds of a flop coming all one suit of not only a different suit but a different color than the suited cards I’m holding is 1.7%”

    I think it’s actually 2.9%.

“Seems like it happens a lot more often than that. ”

    So that explains that. IsoP
