In the time I’ve been playing poker, rarely have I seen two hands played so poorly in my life. It boggles that these people exist.
Still, I’m a big fan.
Last night, in the 28K Guarantee on Full Tilt, I was playing my usual weak-tight game early, and limped on the button (behind another) with ATo. The blinds (I think we were 15/30) came along and the flop was Th6h3d. It was checked to me and I bet the pot. I’ll take it right here in an unraised pot, thankyouverymuch. The BB called. The turn was the Td (Yahtzee!) and I bet the pot again when it was checked to me. The BB called. The river…well…let’s wait for that shall we?
He pushed when it fell. I insta-called. What would you think he’s playing at this point? Two hearts? That’s what I figured. He wasn’t bright enough to extract a flopped set, from the BB no less. So you’d guess the Ah fell on the river. Push by flush; insta-call by boat.
No. It was the Ad. The BB was playing The Hammer, suited in diamonds. Your task now is to explain to me why he called the flop bet.
The other hand was tonight in the $17K Guaranteed on Full Tilt. I was extremely short in the second hour, having lost all but 600 of my chips to T8o who got all frisky with his OESD and hit on the river against my flopped two pair. I and my meager stack were in the BB with blinds at 60/120 and a short stack pushed for 190 total. He got two callers and, as sad as my Brunson of Hearts looked, there’s no question I call there.
The flop was AhQc6d. Gah. No lucky flop for me and I am in desperate need of lucky flops. I check and the two callers check, as well. Bonus. The turn is Kh, which, next to the Jh, is the greatest card in the world for me. Still, I check with the intention of calling any bet (I have T425 and 12 outs). A player bets the pot, the other folds and I expose my Th2h, getting 3-1 (close enough!). The 5h falls on the river and I drag the fucker. Which fires me up, gets me to T1720 and, eventually right back in the thing when a Big Stack JJ runs into my KK.
But the question remains. We are talking about poorly played hands, right? So what did the turn bettor have? Would you believe…in a million years…QQ?
QQ who called–CALLED–less–LESS–than a min-raise pre-flop, then checked his set on the flop.
I’m not complaining. Because I’m still in the tourney.
What’s the worst played hand you’ve seen lately?
I was actually gonna blog about this today. I’m playing a 6-max cash game, guy limps into the pot, I raise with Aces. Flop comes A-9-5. He checks, I bet…and he check-raises me. OK…I re-raise. My slow-playing days are OVAH. He calls.
The turn is a King. He checks, I bet…and he check-raises me again. I figure he’s gotta have a set, maybe even a turned set of Kings, and I get a woodie as I raise. He just calls.
The river’s a three. He checks, I bet…and the bastard check-raises me AGAIN! I couldn’t believe it. I looked at the board for a full 20 seconds trying to figure out if I was missing something. Then I raise.
He calls. What did he have? Pocket nines? Fives? Kings? Well, he did have a pocket pair.
Pocket deuces.
I love poker.
The worst played hand I’ve ever seen occurred in a 1/2 cash game.
EP raises to $7 BB calls.
Flop is Ad Kc Jh.
BB checks raiser bets $15 and BB calls.
Turn is Qc BB checks raiser bets $30 BB calls
River is Th, BB bets $20, inititial raiser folds.
I remember thinking the river bet was dumbest thing I had ever seen until the fold.
