I usually relate this tale to people that want to run up and tell me they got a bad beat when they flopped a set and got beat by a flush - or something nonsensical that isn't even a bad beat. And I also tell them if they can top it, I will buy them dinner. At the Gold Coast, years ago, on graveyard, I was in a $4-8 H game in the BB, posting $2. A player straddle the blind. I looked down to 4-4 and called $2 more. The flop was k-6-4. I bet, got called in three places. The turn was another 4. I checked. One bet, one fold, one call, and I raised. As the bettor raised me back, he said, "Don't worry, Honey, we can still be friends in the morning!" One fold, one call, and I raised back with, "Ge-e-e...I sure hope so!" He put in the last raise and we got one caller all-in. The river gave me five of a kind. The first four 4's were clean, the fifth 4 put two 4 of spades on the board. No one knew it but me. I turned to the floorman and said, "Marvin, come here." The whole table looked at me like I'd lost my mind as I waited for Marvin. He stood behind me. "There are three 4's on the board, right?" Marvin, "Right!" I turned my hand up, "Here's two more to go with those." Huge 'ooohs' and 'aaahhhs'. Everyone got their money back. I quietly slid my chips into a rack and went home. I wasn't angry, it just took the wind out of my sails and I was done with the game.
