Two weeks after Congressmen Barney Frank (D-MA) and Ron Paul (R-TX) introduced H.R. 5767 to Congress, several other members of the House Committee on Financial Services – Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Peter King (R-NY) – joined them in calling for its support.

California Online Poker Study Moves to Next Phase
In February of 2008, California Assemblyman Lloyd Levine from Van Nuys introduced a bill to the California legislature that proposed a study of the legality of intrastate online poker. Less than two months later, the California Assembly Governmental Organization Committee (AGOC) unanimously passed it.

PPA Provides Hope for Poker with 1 Million Members
On April 22, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) announced that it reached its latest milestone when the organization enrolled its one millionth member. At last check of the website, membership has already gone over and above that mark as it sits at 1,000,450.

Frank and Paul Introduce Legislation to Stop UIGEA
On Thursday, April 10, Congressmen Barney Frank (D-MA) and Ron Paul (R-TX) introduced legislation to Congress to disengage financial institutions from their responsibilities to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). H.R. 5767 would prohibit the Department of the Treasury and Federal Reserve System from implementing any regulations set forth by the UIGEA.

Hearing Shows UIGEA is Burden Without Benefit

PPA to Provide Litigation Support
On March 24, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) launched the Litigation Support Network. The service will be free to all members of the PPA and provide basic, initial legal advice for poker-related issues. It will also refer members to a network of attorneys who have signed up to be a part of the network.

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has been building a reputation as a grassroots advocacy group, and Drew Lesofski recently joined the organization as the Director of Grassroots and External Affairs. His primary goal will be to manage the continued growth of the PPA’s nearly 1 million members.

Congressional Hearing to Examine UIGEA Flaws
