New Las Vegas Terminal

McCarran airport will officially open the $2.4 billion terminal 3 (T3) on June 27th. Terminal 2, the airport's dowdy stepchild, will be replaced by T3.

"Las Vegas is a city that's known for bold and daring architecture at its hotels," says Henry Harteveldt, a travel industry analyst at the Atmosphere Research Group. "You want your airport to be part of that experience. It's the first impression a traveler will have when they arrive."

The new terminal will house 14 gates and provide new technology that can allow self-boarding at the gates and self-tagging for baggage at check-in if the airline opts to use those features.

Not to worry slot players of the world, there will be nearly 300 slot machines throughout the 1.9-million-square-foot terminal along with seven new restaurants and retail outlets.
