Phil Ivey stormed to the top of the leader board on Day 1b of the Aussie Millions Main Event in a field thatstack of cash included Jennifer Tilly, Phil Laak, Shannon Elizabeth and Clonie Gowen. Also taking the field were 2007 Aussie Millions champion Gus Hansen and Australia’s favorite poker son, 2005 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Hachem.

The big names were not afraid of tangling with each other early, as Phil Laak tangled with Shannon Elizabeth when he flopped a set with pocket Aces and sent the newly-sponsored Mansion Poker player to the rail. Kevin ‘BeLOWaBOVe’ Saul joined fellow online star Erik ‘Erik123’ Sagstron, Karina Jett, and 2000 WSOP Main Event Champion Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson at one of the tournament’s “tables of death.”

Gus Hansen was eliminated on Day 1b, ending his chances at a repeat title. He put the last of his chips in with 7♠-7 and found one caller holding Q-J. The flop of A-J♠-2 left Hansen drawing thin, and when the turn and river ran out 9-9♣, the Great Dane was eliminated. Other notable eliminations included Joe Sebok, Damien Oborne, Patrik Antonius, Jennifer Tilly and Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson.

Phil Ivey built a big stack early and wielded it with precision for much of the day. There was a little bit of luck involved as well, as Ivey found himself in a three-way all in early in the evening and made quads on the turn to crack one opponent’s flopped straight. Joe Hachem and 2007 WSOP bracelet winner Jeff Lisandro also held big stacks for most of Day 1b. As the players bagged their chips in the early morning, the top ten chip stacks looked like this -

Phil Ivey – 163,300
Dominic Sinagra – 151,300
Jeff Lisandro – 138,400
Max Pescatori – 137,600
Travis Brown – 129,500
Stefan Jedlicka – 123,500
Joe Hachem – 111,400
Jason Brown – 105,600
Eric Sclavos – 103,000
Robert Akery – 101,900

Other notable players surviving Day 1b included Terrence ‘Not Johnny’ Chan, Erick Lindgren, Peter ‘Nordberg’ Feldman, Ari ‘BodogAri’ Engel and Clonie Gowen.
