Aussie Millions Main Event Day 3
The third day of the Aussie Millions Main Event saw 98 players take to the felt in the quest for the money, starting at 80th place. By the end of the day, 22 players remained, with some familiar names atop the leader board. Many poker superstars still had chips as Day 3 kicked off, including Jeff Lisandro, Matt Matros, Erik Seidel and Mike ‘The Mouth’ Matusow.Matusow bemoaned the state of his cards for much of Day 2 until he managed to double up with pocket Aces late in the day to rejuvenate his stack. According to Matusow, he was “2 for 11 on coin flips the trip,” and that trend continued to send him packing from the Main Event. Early in Day 3, Matusow pushed all in with 9♣-9♠, and found one caller in Con Angelakis, who called with A♦-K♠. The flop helped neither player, until the 2♦ on the turn gave Angelakis outs to the nut flush. He didn’t need it, as the A♣ on the river was enough to silence Mike ‘The Mouth.”
Two players shared the dubious distinction of going out on the bubble, as Charles Cuschieri and Lucio Baroni busted at the same time during hand-for-hand play. Cuschieri moved all in with A♣-3♥ and ran into Jean Gianotti’s pocket Jacks, while Baroni’s pocket 10s were cracked by Mark Kassis’ A-K when a King came down. Since both players busted on the same hand, they were both awarded the 80th place finish, so each received $7,500 for the tournament.
Several big names busted soon after the bubble, as Perry Friedman was outdrawn by Matt Kirk to send him to the rail when Kirk rivered the nut flush to bust Friedman’s two pair. Kevin ‘BeLOWaBOVe’ Saul was caught with his hand in the cookie jar when Steven Miller called his all in with A♠-K♥. Saul revealed the mighty 7♣-4♠, and he was left with enough to ante for the next hand. Other notable eliminations included Tom ‘Durrr’ Dwan, Erick Lindgren and Matt Matros.
Andy Black finished Day 1 as the chip leader, but ran the last of his short stack into Erik Seidel’s pocket Tens to bust in 34th place ($30,000). Matthew Legarde began Day 3 atop the leader board, but busted in 26th place when Peter Ling called his preflop all in with pocket Aces. Legarde’s Kings were no good, and he was done.
Crown Casino regular Antonio Casale finished Day 3 with the chip lead, delighting local players, who remarked that Casale ‘had been playing poker at the Crown since it opened.”
