EPT Dublin Day 2
122 players returned to the Royal Dublin Society for the PokerStars European Poker Tour Dublin event with their sights set on the €532,620 first prize and the title of EPT Dublin Champion. Among the top contenders for the title were local boy made good Andy Black, WSOP Bracelet winner Katja Thater, and World Series of Poker Europe Main Event Champion Annette ‘Annette_15' Obrestad.
Ben ‘milkybarkid' Grundy was cruising along to the delight of his fans when his A♠-Q♣ found a call from an opponent holding A♥-9♣. Grundy was well ahead preflop, but when the 9♠ came on the board, Grundy was crippled. He got the rest of his chips in the middle soon after with A♠-5♣ against A♦-Q♥ and missed a two-outer of his own to head to the rail. He was joined in elimination on Day 2 by stars like Thor Hansen, Nicholas Levi, Brandon Schaefer and Katja Thater.Liam ‘The Gentleman' Flood came out on the short end of a confrontation with Andy Black, which sent Flood to the rail and helped build Black's big stack. Preflop, Flood came in for a raise, and then shoved all in over the top when Black re-raised. Black called quickly with Q♥-Q♠, and Flood was drawing thin with J♥-10♥. No help on the board, and Flood went to the rail as Black went on a tear. Black doubled through Mike McDonald soon after when his pocket nines held up against McDonald's 6♠-7♣ on a board of 7♠-3♥-4♥. Black continued to chip up through the day and ended Day 2 as the chip leader.
Black was joined at his table on Day 2 by Annette ‘Annette_15' Obrestad. Fresh off her win at the WSOP Europe Main Event, Obrestad has made a very successful transition from internet superstar to live play this summer. After winning a couple of lucky hands early on Day 2, Obrestad built a massive chip stack and finished the day close to Black in total chips.
With 25 places paying, it fell to Dave ‘El Blondie' Colclough to be the bubble boy, a spot he's claimed in 3 EPT events. Colclough made top pair on a flop of 8♣-3♠-5♠ with K♥-8♥ and got all his chips in after Reijo Manninen led out at the flop. Manninen made the call with 10♠-7♠ for a flush draw, and the J♠ on the turn sent Colclough to the rail.
Andy Black closed out Day 2 as the chip leader, with Thierry van den Berg and Annette Obrestad close behind. Other notable players surviving Day 2 included Johnny Lodden and Team PokerStars members Noah Boeken and Luca Pagano. The top ten chip stacks looked like this as play ended on Day 2 -
