Charity Report: Full Tilt Poker Fundraiser for Injured Riders on Sept. 21
Charity tournaments on Full Tilt Poker have become quite popular over the past year or two, as it is a convenient way for the poker community to help a good cause by simply logging on to their computers to play a little online poker. This will be the case on Sunday, September 21st, when Full Tilt Poker hosts the “Monster,” a tournament to benefit the Injured Riders Fund for Road 2 Recovery.

The tournament is scheduled to begin at 18:30 ET, and players can register for a $5 buy-in + $5 donation to the charity. The prize pool will be made up of the buy-in itself, and there will be a model sports watch valued at $2,200 for the winner, courtesy of one of the event’s sponsors Curtis & Co. Watches. And the $5 donation from each player will go to the charity, along with a pledge from Monster, another sponsor, to match up to $10,000 of the proceeds.
The tournament is open to the public, but many poker pros and sports celebrities have already signed up to play. Poker notables scheduled are Andy Bloch, Jeff Madsen, Jennifer Harman, Roy Winston, Marco Traniello, and Karina and Chip Jett. Joining them will be Supercross celebrities Josh Grant, Grant Langston, Nathan Ramsey, and Jason Thomas, as well as professional snowboarders Jeff Brushie and Kris Swierz and X-Games champion Ross Powers. And last but not least, Supercross legend Jimmy Button will be in the tournament as BTNFLY, as he is also the founder of Road 2 Recovery.
Button was quoted as saying, “The past couple of years have been especially difficult for industry riders. Since my own recovery, I’ve dedicated my life to helping professional AMA licensed Motocross and Supercross members sustaining career-ending injuries with financial, motivational, emotional, and spiritual support.”
Button’s injury was sustained when he was 26-years old after ten years of riding motorcycles professionally. On January 22, 2000, at the Supercross event in San Diego, he took a fall and bruised his spinal cord, paralyzing him from the neck down. Though doctors said he may never walk again, he has since recovered enough to walk, though his riding career was and is over. From that experience, Button knew that there was a dire need for an organization that would provide financial and emotional assistance for those extreme situations, so he started the Road 2 Recovery Foundation with Bob Moore and Bob Walker. The non-profit organization now supports the community he worked in and still loves.
