Hal Lubarsky Signed to Full Tilt Poker

Hal Lubarsky with ReaderAccording to reports, Full Tilt Poker has signed poker pro Hal Lubarsky to its roster of Full Tilt Pros. The sponsorship deal should enable Lubarsky to begin appearing at more major tournaments in the future.

Lubarsky joins an all-star line-up of professional players under the Full Tilt Pro label. The list already includes 95 pros like David Benyamine, Lee Watkinson, Robert Williamson III, Paul Wasicka, Cyndy Violette, Kenny Tran, David Singer, Huck Seed, David Pham, Max Pescatori, Karina and Chip Jett, Kristy Gazes, Scott Clements, Eli Elezra, John D’Agostino, David Chiu, Andy Black, and Josh Arieh.

Lubarsky has been a poker pro for a number of years, though he only became better known to the great poker community over the past two years when he was featured on ESPN’s World Series of Poker coverage. Not only did he finish in 197th place at the 2007 WSOP main event, but he did so as a legally blind man with the help of a reader. He wasn’t able to make it through Day 2A of the 2008 main event, but he didn’t cease to inspire all who watched him play.

After having played limit poker on a professional basis for approximately 15 years, Lubarsky began to experience the degeneration of his eyesight and gave up poker as a result. But when asked to play in a charity tournament to benefit the family of the Mirage poker room manager who died a few years ago, he refused until the organizers suggested he find a reader, someone who could sit with him to relay the cards, chip counts, bets, and actions at the table. He did so and found his way back to poker.

The Full Tilt Poker sponsorship deal will allow Lubarsky to play a bigger role on the poker tournament circuit.

*Editor’s Note:  In April of 2008, the following email (unimportant parts of it cut) was sent to a friend that works with PokerStars:

"Perhaps a futuristic project for PokerStars - if they take suggestions - and it may be in the works somewhere on some site already.

A version of software that talks. It could be voice responsive and the user could either use a mic or a keyboard to key in their response.  The voice would tell them their position, what was on the board, the bet, their hand, etc.

There are a lot of sight impaired people that would love to play poker.

And it might slow the game down a bit but we have players that do that all the time and they can see.  It's just a thought anyway."

Is it already out there somewhere or in production?
