Charity Report: Binions Tourney to Benefit Juvenile Diabetes Oct. 3

The Binion’s world famous poker room will be host to the second annual Texas Hold’em JDRFTournament to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. On the evening of October 3rd, players of all skill levels will join together to raise money for a worthy organization while enjoying a social night of cocktails, poker, and prizes.

In 2007, the first annual charity tournament to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) was an incredible success, as the Bally’s event raised more than $8,000 for the organization. This year’s follow-up tournament looks to be an even bigger function for several reasons. Not only has it been moved to Binion’s in downtown Las Vegas, but complimentary drinks will be provided, and the top prize is an amazing Toshiba 37” LCD HDTV. The goal of the event is to raise $10,000 for the charity.

For a small tournament entry fee of $70, which is tax deductible, players will compete for prizes to be awarded the top ten players, and all will be qualified for various door prizes. Due to space restrictions, the event will be capped at 100 players, so it is advisable to pre-register by calling organizer Russell Burgess at (702) 538-0570 or e-mailing him at Russell_Burgess@cox.net, or get to the event early for the 7pm-10pm festivities.

This year’s event will also feature “beginner tables” set up for people who want to contribute and participate in this great tournament but have little experience with Texas hold’em. Everyone, from amateurs to pros, is welcome!

JDRF is a non-profit organization that has been advocating for type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research on a global level since being founded in 1970. With no cure, diabetes can be a complicated disease leading to life-threatening outcomes that sometimes include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. Research is the key to the cure, and JDRF has awarded more than $1.16 billion to that cause since its inception. In 2007 alone, JDRF raised more than $137 million and funded 700 centers, grants, and fellowships in 20 countries.

For more information about the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, visit www.JDRF.org . And to help raise money for the cause, consider attending the second annual Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament at Binion’s on October 3rd.
