Last Chance Satellite in to the Main Event
You have two chances left to satellite your way into the Main Event!!! I spoke with Michael Slater, Assistant Supervisor in the Amazon Room on duty today and he gave me the lowdown. The Mega Satellite started at 9:00PM. Sunday evening and the line starts to get very long around 8 p.m. They allowed players to register all the way up until 9:30 p.m. Last night alone, they gave away 18 seats and tonight they expect an even larger number. It's practically your last chance. If the Mega Satellite isn't your thing, how about the Turbo Mega Satellite that starts tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.? They say that the early bird catches the worm, so this is your chance early birds! Both of these satellites have a $1060 buy-in, but the structure differs a tiny bit.
In the turbo event, players will begin with $3000 in tournament chips as opposed to the $5000 chips you are given in the Mega Satellite. Blinds increase every 15 minutes in the turbo and they increase every 30 minutes in the Mega. Both games will start with blinds at $25-$50 and they double as they go up. As always, play will continue until there is a winner. If the net prize pool does not reach $10,200, 1st place will receive 100% of the prize pool. Sounds like a good deal to me!
At 6:00 p.m. there wasn't a line yet, but I ran into a few guys from Fargo, North Dakota (yes, I said Fargo) and they had just landed a few hours ago! They raced on over to the Rio to sign up for the Mega Satellite. Justin explained to me that his grandmother is on her death bed and her dying wish is for him to win a bracelet.
After the laughter died down he assured me that he plays a lot of poker online and with the go ahead from his wife, he's ready to "kick some WSOP butt". What are you going to do if you don't win a seat via the mega satellite? "I'll stay up all night and play in the turbo at 8:00 a.m. and if that doesn't pan out, I'll just buy in". Good plan! Staying up all night shouldn't hinder Justin's game at all.
Along for the journey was Justin's friend, Mary and her boyfriend Tim. Mary already bought in to the Main Event, but Tim decided on a last minute whim that he was going to play in the Main Event too! First he's going to give the Mega Satellite a shot tonight and then if that doesn't pan out, he'll get some sleep, skip the turbo and just pay the $10,000 to buy in.
Well, it seems as though everyone has a plan, and I can't wait to see how my new friends fare in the Main Event. If any of these guys final table, they assured me that CarmenSinCity will be doing the interview, not ESPN. I can't ask for anything more than that!
