The World Poker Tour (WPT) has been visiting the biggest little city in the world – Reno – since its first season, but the current stop there will be its last. Per the new WPT schedule that was released earlier this year, as reported here, Reno is one of the tournaments missing from Season VII.

The WPT Invitational began, as it does each year, with a reception that included an open bar, luscious dinner buffet, and much socializing between the invited celebrities and poker pros. By the time everyone had taken their seats to play, the count was 445 players. Fun was in progress.

On February 2, 2008, a total of 82 women entered the World Poker Tour Ladies event at Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. The tournament was a $1000 buy-in event that was part of the L.A. Poker Classic series and held in association with the Ladies Poker Association (LPA).

In the first month of the new year, many of poker’s best and brightest players headed out to Atlantic City, New Jersey for the Borgata Poker Classic. Quite a few of them will readily admit that the Borgata tournament structures are the best anywhere, so the World Poker Tour $10,000 buy-in main event ends up being one of the best attended events of the year.

After a week of poker in paradise, Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier claimed his first European Poker Tour title by winning the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, worth a cool $2 million! Grospellier outlasted a field of 1,136 players to take down the tournament, the largest in PCA history and join former winners like Team PokerStars teammate Steve Paul-Ambrose as PCA Champions.

In a day that only saw 32 eliminations; the action was steady, deliberate, and important. The final 40 players in the PokerStars.net Caribbean Adventure played down to the final table on Day 4, with some big names going home, and one Supernova shining brightly at the end of the day.

The bubble burst early on Day 3 of the PokerStars.net Caribbean Adventure and 120 players were happy to hear it go. But only one can walk away with the $2 Million first prize, and at the end of Day 3, it was David ‘The Dragon’ Pham who sat in the lead of the 40 remaining players. Joining Pham among the survivors of Day 3 were Thierry Van Den Berg, Rhett Butler, and William Thorson.

As the last chips were bagged on Day 2 of the 2008 PokerStars.net Caribbean Adventure, Eric ‘Rizen’ Lynch overtook Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier for the chip lead when his pocket Kings held up against an opponent’s nut flush draw.

580 players joined the field on Day 1b of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure at the Atlantis Resort, bringing the total field to 1,136 players in the largest field ever for the tournament. Among the Day 1b entrants were a plethora of world champions, including Greg Raymer, Tom McEvoy and Joe Hachem.
