Mandalay Bay Poker Championship (Day One)
349 players descended on one of the newest locales for poker in Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay, for the first day of the Mandalay Bay Poker Championship WPT event. Poker glitterati was scattered throughout the room. Super Satellite qualifiers, over the weekend, produced 49 more tough contestants The winner of this inaugural event will take home slightly over $1,000,000.The carnage that is the first day of a WPT tourney held true to form, with John D'Agostino, Kido Pham, Mimi Tran, Jennifer Harman, Barry Greenstein, Dan Harrington, Daniel Negreanu, Liz Lieu, David Plastik, Men the Master, Scott Fischman, and Doyle Brunson all becoming Day One casualties. In one of the last hands of the day, Phil Ivey and Alan Goehring were eliminated on the same hand. Day Two will find 164 players fighting it out; with the top fifteen chip leaders ready to defend their positions and move up the ladder; they're all tough pros.

With blinds starting at 400/800 with a 100 ante, short stacks including Paul Darden, T.J. Cloutier, Kenna James, Evelyn Ng, Isabelle Mercier, and Mike Matusow will have to make some early moves to see the evening.
