MTV Looking for Online Players

cash & chipsAre you a young (or young looking) online poker player and want to be on TV?

If the answer is yes, then you could be featured in a reality TV show. And no, it’s not Survivor, though that title would fit very well with poker.

The TV show is a reality based series called True Life which is broadcast on MTV, and chronicles the unusual lifestyles of young people. The series premiered in 1998 and has had episodes with such stories as: Gay activists dealing with pregnancy, youngsters trying to handle being in debt, and people with Tourettes Syndrome.

The latest brainstorm for an episode about online players comes from producer Ben Rosen, whose production company, Leftright.tv, produces the show for MTV. The title for the show will be "I Live Another Life on the Web."

For the last couple of weeks, Rosen has been looking for interested online poker players via online poker forums.
Posting as truelife, Rosen said, "We're reaching out to a number of different online groups and cultures, and we thought it could be fascinating to profile someone who gambles online. The key thing we're looking for is that our subject leads a life that is very distinct/unique/interesting when juxtaposed to his or her online gambling activities. I anticipate some eye-rolling when folks see everybody's favorite whipping-boy network, MTV.”

In an interview about his series, Rosen stated, "The True Life series really does stand out from your typical MTV programming, as it is far less 'reality TV' and more objective documentary. The series is always told POV the characters we choose, so there is no editorializing or commenting-on that we engage in. The effort, simply, is to tell the subject's story in as objective a way as possible."

MTV describes the show as, “True Life tells its stories solely from the varied voices and points of view of its characters, putting the series in the unique position of reflecting the state of youth culture at any given moment.”
The TV series has won many journalism awards, and nominated for several others. In 2000 and 2003, it was nominated for GLAAD Media Awards, winning in 2005 in the Outstanding Documentary category, for its "I'm Gay and I'm Getting Married" episode.

The series also won the 2000 Image Award in the Outstanding News, Talk or Information Special category for the "I Am Driving While Black" episode. It has also won a Prism Award for the best TV Teen Series Episode or Special.

If you are between the ages of 16 and 28 (or just look like you are) and would like to be considered for the True Life show, you can email Ben Rosen at weblife@mtvstaff.com or brosen@leftright.tv. Please include your name, location, phone number, photo and story.
