The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has joined forces with the Paralyzed Veterans of America toParalyzed Vets host a fundraiser at the site of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. On the evening of Tuesday, August 26th, a charity poker tournament is scheduled to take place on the club level of Coors Field to benefit paralyzed vets.

A VIP reception will kick off the festivities at 9:30pm, with tournament participants invited to mingle with professional poker players and Hollywood celebrities. Ben Affleck has already confirmed his intent to participate, as well as poker pros like Andy Bloch and Barry Greenstein. Just after the reception, the tournament will begin at approximately 10pm, with the top prize being a $10,000 seat into the 2009 World Series of Poker main event.

Corporate sponsorships are available in exchange for access to the VIP reception and ad space on event promotional materials. And anyone is welcome. For more information about the buy-in and reserving a seat at the event, contact Nichole Krieger at NicholeK@pva.org.

PPA Chairman Alfonse D’Amato said, “PPA is honored to host this charity poker tournament and looks forward to raising a lot of money for these American heroes. This is a great opportunity to harness the popularity of the game of poker in order to raise much needed funds for those who have fought to protect our country and our individual freedoms – paralyzed vets.”

All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting military veterans with disabilities. Founded in 1946, the group specializes in attending to the special needs of veterans with spinal cord injuries and similar dysfunctions. In addition to advocating for health care and other benefits, Paralyzed Veterans stays atop the most current research and education regarding said injuries, as well as civil rights, accessibility, and opportunities for those members.
