Harrah’s has ridden a significant increase in participation since acquiring the WSOP brand in 2004 through their acquisition of Binion’s Horseshoe. With the huge fields, growth in the number of events, plus new management, operational issues have occurred.

Joe Sebok spent his college days at Berkeley, moved into the .com world after college, and then turned his attention to poker. He had a family member who knew a little bit about it, his father Barry Greenstein. He made a big splash in the 2005 World Series of Poker, with two final tables. 2006 started with a bang, as he won back to back tournaments at the Mirage and in LA.

Matt Matros burst onto the poker scene with his 3rd place finish in the 2004 WPT Championship, earning a cool $706k in the process. He was forced to add a chapter to his book The Making of a Poker Player, and it was a re-write that he didn’t mind making. Matros has an interesting background with a B.S. in mathematics from Yale and a M.F.A in Creative Writing from Sarah Lawrence College.

For many, Vince Van Patten was unknown until the World Poker Tour premiered on the Travel Channel. Van Patten’s knowledge comes not from being a quick study but from being around the game, literally, his entire life. His father, Dick Van Patten (best known as Tom Bradford on Eight is Enough), hosted legendary Hollywood home games.
