Hamid Dastmalchi may indeed be the most conspicuous past World Series of Poker Main Event winner that we’ve explored during our “Where Are They Now Series.” Dastmalchi came on the scene in the mid-80’s as a major force, but almost just as quickly as he made it big, he disappeared, at least from the tournament scene.

When Daniel isn’t winning bracelets he is constantly working with the WSOP to make the event better and better. Now he is also working with poker players on his new training site Poker VT. Brad Daugherty’s odyssey from three dollar winner to one million dollar winner is quite an impressive story. Daugherty has had some success since his one million dollar score at the 1991 World Series of Poker, but that is the day that catapulted him into poker immortality. Daugherty was born in Mountain Grove, Missouri in 1951, but shortly after his birth his family moved to Iowa.

The beginning of Annie Duke and the game of poker is not unlike a lot of other pros who eventually make it big. In fact, her earlier days set up the typical cliché for someone who would go on to do great things in the game. She was introduced to poker at a very early age, grew up in a home where playing cards was a household hobby, and her family took winning very seriously.

Since I have a good memory for faces, it took me a short minute to make sure it was him. It was, and I greeted him, never having met him.
