Poker News Cup Austria, Day 2 and Day 3
115 players returned to action at the Poker News Cup Austria with hopes of making it to day 3. By
the time play ended, 31 players remained. As is usually the case, the early chip leaders were nowhere to be found when the day was over. Harald Suschegg started the day with the chip lead and T-6 Poker pro Henrik Gwinner was 2nd. Both joined well known poker writer Rolf Slotboom on the rail.Slotboom almost made the money but got it all in with K-J against A-Q and was unable to win the hand. The hand of the day took place between the person who took Slotboom out, Goran Petrovic, and Erich Kollmann, shortly before play ended before the day. With a board of 5-5-J-7-A, Kollmann led out. Petrovic went into the tank before making a large raise that would cost Kollmann most of his stack if he called and lost. Finally, he made the tough call with A-Q and found out that Petrovic was bluffing with K-10. The big win for Kollmann put him among the chip leaders as play ended, but he's still looking up at chip leader Pierre Marceau.
Day 3 began with the 31 players looking at making the money, as 27 would get paid. Jorg Niepenberg was the unfortunate bubble boy as his K-J was dominated by A-J and he failed to get lucky. The action was fast and furious afterwards and it took record time to get to the final 10. Day 2 chip leader Marceau was the final table bubble finishing in 11th place which was good for €1,630.
Only eight would make it to the final play and the action slowed down considerably as players jockeyed for position and tried to survive. Kollmann, who had taken out Marceau, eliminated Joao Santos with pocket queens against Santos' A-Q. Santos also collected €1,630 for his efforts.
The final eight was determined when Ville Hyyrylainen moved all in pre-flop with pocket fives and was called by Hugo Felix's K-10. Felix hit a 10 and Ville had to settle for a not so shabby €2,920 payday for his 9th place finish.
Kollmann enters the final day as the chip leader but Felix is not too far behind. Who will win it all? Tune into PokerWorks to find out.
