Poker Personalities
Until you face someone down across the green felt, you really never know what lurks inside. Until you follow a cocktail waitress through a crowded poker room, you really never know what she hears. Until you push a broom as a porter, you never see the junk humanity throws at you. Until you stand behind the cashier’s window at tournament buy in time – or the pay-out window, you never quite understand the meaning of pressure. Until you deal the card on the river that busts out a poker pro, you never really get to see how they react to a loss.
The personalities of poker are too complex and varied to paint in a few pages but please check back often because that is our intent here at PokerWorks – to give you a glimpse of the real world of poker and it is definitely not the TV version.
She is well known for her on camera interviews with all of the poker players on PokerNews.com, but now she is the one being interviewed. Tiffany Michelle talks about her experiences in the Main Event on the dinner break of day 4. I can’t believe I have made it through the field so far but before the Main Event started I was talking to someone who said something that got into my head.

Adam has cashed for over a million online and already has 5 cashes going into the Main Event of the 2008 WSOP. He shares the roller coaster that was his first 2 days of the biggest event in poker.I started out the Main Event with a decent table draw in the Brazilia room. I got up to 28k early, but then we got moved and I dusted off a few chips and was up to 22k.

This wasn’t the positive World Series of Poker experience that Tom Schneider had in mind. After a stellar WSOP in 2007, with three final tables – two of which were bracelet victories – and the Player of the Year title, he had high hopes for a follow-up year. It didn’t turn out as planned. In the eyes of most, Tom’s Series was a good one.

The history between Kristy Gazes and the World Series of Poker has been a rocky one. While she excels at other tournament series on a regular basis, the WSOP has been somewhat of a thorn in her side. Her best performance at the WSOP was in 2001 when she made the final table of the $2,000 S.H.O.E. event and finished fifth.

It didn’t go exactly as planned, but it was damn close. Scott Clements came to the 2008 World Series with some specific goals in mind: five cashes, two final tables, and one bracelet. Going into the main event, he was just a tad short, with four cashes, two final tables, and no bracelet…yet.

Mark Seif knows a thing…or 2 about poker at the World Series. In 2005 he won back-to-back bracelets, besting thousands of players to pick up the wins. He has cashed for 2 million dollars in worldwide tournaments and is at the 2008 WSOP looking for another big win.I think the organizers of the Series have done just a fantastic job so far.

He has very publicly ridden the ups and downs of poker and shared his feelings with the world along the way. After winning a weight loss bet with Ted Forrest, Mike Matusow showed up at the 2008 WSOP … pounds lighter and ready for a great series. He has tried to leave his demons at the door and so far it seems to be working for him.

More than half of the events of the 2008 World Series of Poker have been completed. Nearly half of the actual days of WSOP play are yesterdays. And the players are feeling it. For those committed to playing quite a few events and accomplishing specific goals, it is crunch time.

I first met Scott Seiver at the 2007 World Series of Poker. I noticed this jolly, happy go lucky guy playing poker, laughing, and having a good time. He looked like he'd be more at home as an extra in a Chris Farley or Adam Sandler movie than at a poker table. He didn't win any tournaments but he cashed in three events including a 44th and 32nd place finish.

Most would call it, at the very least, an above-average start to the 2008 WSOP – three cashes, including one final table and the near-miss of another. But Tom Schneider has higher expectations.
