The votes have been counted, and the results are in. Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States, and numerous other Congressional races have been decided. While many issues were considered as Americans cast their votes and awaited results, the one pertinent here, though it pales in comparison to economic or national security concerns, is poker.

The USA is at the peak of the political season which happens every four years. When deciding which way to vote, we all tend to vote for the candidate who shares as many of our views as possible. For poker players, this is tricky because in this election, neither candidate has addressed the UIGEA and if they have feelings about it one way or the other.

Harrah’s Entertainment has announced its Poker Hall of Fame inductees for 2008. Duane “Dewey” Tomko and Henry Orenstein will be honored at the induction ceremony on Sunday, November 9th, just prior to the World Series of Poker Main Event final table event at the Penn & Teller Theater at the Rio in Las Vegas.

It was only a matter of time. Out of the 141 online gaming domains affected by the recent Kentucky ruling and all of the subsequent companies and organizations that had a stake in the case, the appeal process was likely in the works before the ruling was even announced. Kentucky has a fight on its hands if it wishes to uphold its recent court decision.

With great anticipation, I waited in the casino for a Hold’em game to fire up after the tournament on our Alaskan cruise. It was after all advertised on the daily activity sheet and out of 1,200 passengers; I figured surely there would be at least eight poker players.As time wore on, I realized it wasn’t going to happen.

On my recent cruise to Alaska I spent the first night in the casino playing a Hold’em tournament as I wrote about here. Now I will continue relating my experiences about the game and the players.A big disappointment to me was the Pokermate automated table. I had never played on one before and was looking forward to trying it. It didn’t take me long to figure out I hated it.

Last month we were lucky enough to take a vacation to Alaska. Our chosen mode of travel was by cruise ship for seven days, then a five day land tour. If you plan a trip of your own to Alaska, cruising is a wonderful way to go, but if you want to see Denali National Park or anything away from the coast, you have to add a land tour either pre or post-cruise.

When I was in college, I was a tournament duplicate bridge player. If you have ever played bridge, you know how frustrating it can be to sit for hours at a time getting horrendous cards, and watching your opponents rack up game after game. Sound familiar poker players?
