According to a new report from Global Betting & Gaming Consultants (GBGC) on the global gambling market, land-based gaming businesses may suffer in the coming years but online gaming will continue to grow.

Kentucky is America’s home for horse racing, but it has also recently become home to one of the most blatant and overzealous attacks on online gambling in the U.S. After the state’s Governor Steve Beshear made it known on September 18th that he intended to seize 141 online gaming domain names, the case is now in the hands of a circuit county judge.

Since 1998, poker has been officially classified as a game of chance in Holland. A Dutch Supreme Court decision did so to make organized poker games illegal without a license, which in essence granted a monopoly to the only licensed entity, Holland Casino. But the debate of poker as a game of skill has resurfaced thanks to one of the country’s leading professors.

The boy who cried wolf is crying again. Online poker player Josh Field, who is better known by the moniker JJProdigy, has posted another apology on an online forum. And it seems to have fallen flat because even those who believed his last open apology may not put much stock in the latest one. As the saying goes, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

On the heels of recent poker bipartisan legislative success with the House Financial Services Committee passage of Rep. Barney Frank’s H.R. 6870, the Payment System Protection Act of 2008, another member of Congress has taken action to stand up for the rights of poker players. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) introduced the Internet Skill Game Licensing and Control Act of 2008.

In July of 2008, WPT Enterprises announced that it has signed a broadcast deal with Fox Sports to air Season 7 of the World Poker Tour. Though few details have emerged about the air dates of the show on Fox Sports Network, information was released about another new collaboration between FSN and WPT. That second show has officially been announced as ClubWPT.com.The new series called ClubWPT.

Some are named after famous poker players, usually because they won a major tournament - like the WSOP - with them.
