A direct attack on the online poker industry came on September 18th in the form of a U.S. state governor who attempted to take control of 141 gambling website domain names. Governor Steve Beshear took it upon himself to ask the Franklin County Circuit Court judge to take the bold move in order to prohibit residents of the state of Kentucky from accessing any of the sites.

The UltimateBet cheating scandal remains unresolved, approximately nine months after the company’s owner, Tokwiro Enterprises, realized that there was a problem. And amidst two ongoing investigations, one of UltimateBet by third-party audit company Gaming Associates and another of Tokwiro by investigator Frank Catania, the scandal has made the pages of the national media.

It seems that the poker-themed live show called The Real Deal will be opening at The Venetian Resort, Hotel, and Casino this fall, and the date of the grand opening has been officially set for October 22nd, 2008.

Tuesday, September 16th, was a good day for poker. Whether most in the poker community realize the ramifications of the passage of H.R. 6870 or not, it is a step in the right direction for the future of online poker and the poker industry as a whole. The piece of legislation passed the House Financial Services Committee, thanks to sponsor Rep.

Gambling and the people who gamble have long held an interest for me. Maybe it is because I have at least two problem gamblers in my family. There may well be more, since I have dozens of cousins I have never met, but I can only say for sure there are two. Unfortunately one of them is very close to me. Not in miles but in heart and relationship.

Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) has been frustrated by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) since its inception. At the law’s core, Frank feels that it is a misguided law, but even insofar as the enforcement of it, he views it as unreasonable.

I received an invite last weekend to attend the World Series of Poker Academy weekend camp at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles. The last one I attended was a day camp during the Aruba Poker Classic a year ago so I was interested in stopping by and freshening up my game.
