Pokernews Cup Austria, Day 1A

The inaugural PokerNews Cup was held in Melbourne, Australia, in 2007 and players from around thepokernews cup globe came to try and take a chance at winning the title.

The beautiful city of Salzburg, Austria and the Concord Card Casino is hosting the latest Poker News Cup and play started with 66 players taking a seat - including well known professionals Rolf Slotboom and Lee Nelson. The buy in for this event was €650 and up to 150 players are expected to join in on Day 1B.

Lee Nelson, a well known poker writer and long time PokerStars representative, would not make it through the day as he ran top pair into an over pair and could not get the lucky suck out. The RNG is rigged!

Rolf Slotboom, a T6 Poker professional and author who has numerous cashes to his name, survived the day despite losing a huge pot with Kings against Aces and is one of 33 players moving on. A key hand for Rolf was when he got it all in with pocket Ten's against Jan Veit's Q-10 and the pair held up.

An interesting hand took place when Harald Suschegg and Filipe “FILPAC” Goncalves tangled. Filipe called Suschegg's raise and after the flop Suschegg made a three times the size of the pot bet. He was either scared of receiving a call or was trying to induce a bluff. As Filipe thought about what to do and seemed to be leaning towards moving all in. Before he could do so, Harald said “I call” and counted out enough chips to cover Filipe's supposed all in. Angle play? We'll never know as Filipe decided not to chance it and folded his hand. Harald ended the day as the chip leader but Filipe wasn't too far behind.

Day 1B follows. Check out Pokerworks for the latest updates on the Pokernews Cup Austria.
