PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Day 1b
580 players joined the field on Day 1b of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure at the Atlantis Resort, bringing the total field to 1,136 players in the largest field ever for the tournament. Among the Day 1b entrants were a plethora of world champions, including Greg Raymer, Tom McEvoy and Joe Hachem. Other Team PokerStars members at the felt on Day 1b included Hevad Khan, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, and Vanessa Rousso.Several members of Team PokerStars made it through Day 1b, including Negreanu, Noah Boeken, who made a big comeback from a short stack early to finish the day near the middle of the pack, and Hevad Khan, who rallied from several bad beats in the evening to finish slightly behind Boeken. “I worked for this stack,” said Khan. Barry Greenstein and 1983 World Champion Tom McEvoy also made it through Day 1.
McEvoy and Chris Moneymaker were the last remaining Team PokerStars World Champions standing at the end of Day 1b, as Greg Raymer and Joe Hachem both went to the rail. Raymer busted early in the day when his pocket sixes lost a race to an opponent’s A-Q, and Hachem went to the rail after toughing out the early rounds of the tournament while very ill. Hachem became ill early in the week and was unable to get healthy for the event or get anything going at the tables. He busted early in Day 1b. Team PokerStars member Vanessa Rousso also went to the rail on Day 1b.
EPT champions and WSOP champions were in abundance on Day 1b, with Gavin Griffin, TJ Cloutier, Pascal Perrault and Rob Hollink all in the field. Annette ‘Annette_15’ Obrestad, winner of the 2007 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, played on Day 1b, but was eliminated as the evening wore on.
Ryan Collett, an internet qualifier from Colorado, finished Day 1a with the chip lead but was surpassed on Day 1b by 33-year old Brian Lindsay from Florida. The claims investigator bought in directly to the event, and put his $8,000 to good use amassing a huge chip stack on Day 1b. Other big stacks, as the day drew to a close, included Jared Mahoney, Marco Savoni, and Daniel Negreanu, who has a little more name recognition than his fellow big stacks.
