PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Day 4 – David ‘The Dragon’ Pham takes Chip Lead to Final Table
In a day that only saw 32 eliminations; the action was steady, deliberate, and important. The final 40 players in the PokerStars.net Caribbean Adventure played down to the final table on Day 4, with some big names going home, and one Supernova shining brightly at the end of the day. While stars like Rhett Butler and Eric ‘Rizen’ Lynch fell, it was David ‘The Dragon’ Pham who finished the day with the chip lead, soaring to a 2:1 chip lead over his nearest competitor. Pham’s chip lead was far from secure at the beginning of the day, when he doubled up Paul Holub early. On a board of 3♣-K♣-7♥-8♠-6♠, Holub called all in with K-Q. Pham mucked and Holub picked up a huge pot, leaving Pham on life support early. Immediately after that, Eric ‘Rizen’ Lynch was crippled with A-K against Richard Fohrenbach’s Queens when the board blanked out. Lynch busted a few hands later, while Pham started his comeback. Other notable players eliminated on Day 4 included Rhett Butler, Victor Ramdin, and Thierry Van Den Berg.
Van Den Berg went to the rail in a particularly tough beat, when he and Glen Chorny got all the money in preflop with Chorny’s Kings drawing thin to Van Den Berg’s Aces. When Chorny saw the hole cards, he offered the dealer $1,000 for a king. He caught his two-outer, and reached into his pockets for $950, all the cash he had on him, to tip the dealer for his luck, as Van Den Berg went to the rail.
Emil Timberg, of Gothenburg Sweden, became one of the feel-good stories of the tournament with his deep finish. The young Swede played a series of freeroll tournaments on PokerStars with ‘Slitz’ magazine to win his seat. He has never deposited money in a poker site, playing only in freerolls, and picked up $48,000 for his 19th place finish. He got his money in with pocket 10s against Evan Tindell’s A-Q, and an Ace in the door sent him packing. As the field dwindled, the players drew closer and closer to the big money, and William Thorson was the final player eliminated on Day 4, as he ran his pocket fours into David Pham’s Aces on a 6-6-x flop. Thorson picked up $120,000 for his 9th-place finish.
Kris Kuykendall celebrated his 25th birthday by guaranteeing himself a six-figure present. He finished Day 4 still in the hunt. Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier was the last Team PokerStars player standing, as the young SuperNova online whiz finished the day in second place to Pham.
