For the third year in a row, America Online (AOL) has announced that it will award six seats into the 2008 World Series of Poker main event in Las Vegas. Through a series of freeroll no-limit hold’em tournaments on the AOL Games website, six lucky players will win their way into the biggest poker tournament of the year.

The tournaments will be held on Games.com/poker for any players registered on AOL. There are numerous qualifiers running and plenty of space for players, as each one has a 5,000 person max. In each daily qualifier, the top 100 finishers are awarded a “main event pass” that grants access to the freeroll in which the top six players will each win a seat. Opportunities to qualify will run through June 15th.

Along with a seat to the $10,000 buy-in 2008 WSOP World Championship main event, AOL winners will receive travel and accommodations for the Las Vegas trip. They will then compete on July 3rd, 2008, in the live tournament as a representative of AOL.

Greg Mills, Director of AOL Games, said, “Free-play online poker continues to be one of our most popular categories on Games.com. We are thrilled to continue our exclusive agreement with Harrah’s License Company, LLC, the owner of the World Series of Poker, to provide a chance for users to win a poker player’s dream come true – a seat at the table with poker professionals. And if they play their cards right, they could walk away with millions.”

Commissioner of the World Series of Poker Jeffrey Pollack added, “For the past three years, AOL has offered amateur poker players something they can’t find anywhere else – a free opportunity to play at the World Series of Poker main event. We are excited to continue our alliance with AOL to offer anyone over the age of 21 a shot at becoming part of poker history.”

In 2007, AOL sent 12 freeroll winners to the WSOP, men and women from as far west as California and as far east as New York. One of those players, Troy O’Brien, ended up cashing in the main event and won $51,398 for his efforts to finish in 198th place out of 6,358 players. The firefighter from Elizabeth, New Jersey, told AOL that he “had a blast!”
