1T.J Cloutier is considered to be one of the finest tournament players in history, having won more than fifty major poker events, including multiple top-five places and six wins of WSOP in different categories, which gave him the lead in overall winnings compared to other top poker players.

T.J Cloutier was born 1939 in Albany, California. After graduating from Jefferson High School in Daly City, T.J went to university at Berkley, which he did not finish due to financial problems. Then he was drafted into the army, which became his first school of poker. After the army, T.J played football in a Canadian team, Montreal Allouettes. He was later moved to Toronto Argonauts, where he got a knee injury which ended his career as a professional football player. Afterwards, T.J Cloutier changed several jobs before settling in Texas, where he worked for an oil company. It was there when T.J started to show signs of a professional poker player, as he started winning more money by playing than he earned by working. This was the reason why he later quit his job and started to travel and play poker full-time – thus, one of the most famous careers in poker, started.

T.J hit the winning WSOP tables for the first time at 1985 WSOP $10.000 NoLimit Hold'em event, finishing second after Bill Smith. He took his first bracelet in 1987, at $1000 Omaha Limit event, where he came out as a winner, having won as much as $72.000. Since 1988, T.J Cloutier has been on a “winning spree”, claiming six wins at WSOP and finishing at the final tables more than forty times, with overall wins at 58 tournaments. There is even a hand named after T.J – it is J9 of clubs, which is called T.J Cloutier, as it is T.J's best hand – he managed to get three flushes at the flop in one year, which brought him large sums of money. His last win, the WSOP $5.000 No Limit Hold'em, ensured his status of a top player even after he suffered a heart attack and a brain tumor removal in 2004.
