The 5th Annual World Tavern Poker Tour in Sin City
Las Vegas is the premier destination spot for conventions. We have venue after venue lined up all along Las Vegas Boulevard hosting conventions and nine times out of ten, they are full! We play host to all sorts of industries including Magic (clothing conference), dentists, artists, and of course the porn industry. It just makes sense that the World Tavern Poker would follow suit and have their conference right here in Sin City.More than 600 poker players from 25 different states traveled to downtown Las Vegas, in particular to Binion’s for the 5th World Tavern Poker Open and it was their biggest and best event yet! Former WSOP Poker Champion, Greg Raymer joined the WTP crew for five exciting days of fun filled chaos.
“We take poker to a whole new level at these events”, said Mike Matsinger, founder of World Tavern Poker. “Poker tournaments themselves aren’t always that exciting, but we add a whole new element with music, unique tournament formats and incredible parties”.
Players wrapped up the league’s Spring and Summer National Championships by playing in the finals as they competed for seats in the World Series of Poker.
Additionally, players competed in other cash tournaments including the Bodog Bounty Hunter Tournament and the Pro Player Speed Poker Tournament, where players only have five seconds to act and of course the Tag Team Poker Championship, where players play with partners!
“It was hilarious” said Mike Filipelli, professional comedian and long time World Tavern Poker Player. “My partner had just made a monster raise when we were switched. I sit down and look at his 8 3 off suit. He was in a stone cold buff and I had to finish it out. What a great time”.
Attendees largely agreed that the poker was great, but the parties were even better! “We know how to put on a great party” added Matsinger.
The Buccaneer Bash kicked things off! Everyone had to dress up as a pirate and they had the chance to compete in the Peg Leg Poker Event and a Halloween themed party followed.
“Our players take their poker very seriously, but they know how to have fun as well” said Matsinger. “If you love playing poker and love having a great time, then these events are for you”.
This is one event I am sorry I missed. As I mentioned in a previous article, Bar Leagues are a great way to get your feet wet, learn a new game, or improve your old game, and best of all, meet new people who share your love of poker. Not to mention, the twice a year party they throw in Las Vegas!
