The Works
The Works is a catchall used to describe something that encompasses everything pertaining to a subject. At PokerWorks, we love the term ‘works' because it gives us a lot of leeway in using many subjects and we don't have to specialize. We feel that's the way poker was meant to be played and perceived - a combination of everything that makes poker the great game that it is.
How would one begin to describe the WSOP other than as being part of The Works? The WSOP is comprised of a number of tournaments with different buy-ins and games, employees that spend 24/7 on site to make it happen, the media that portrays it, players that come from around the globe to play their hearts out and champion to show poker as the great game it is...a game of people played with cards. Prepare to witness the GAME, and all of its intricacies, through the pages of The Works.
12:05 p.m.One of my favorite tournaments of the year... the $1,000 NLHE rebuy is about to kick off. They are running a few minutes late as players go to the cashier’s cage to get casino chips in order to make rebuys. The action during the rebuy period in this event is absolutely nuts. I love it. 12:35 p.m.

4:10 p.m.They've finally made the money in the $1,500 event after almost an hour of hand for hand play (if you've ever played hand for hand in a live tournament, it is absolute torture). The biggest difference between this event and the $10,000 PLHE event? People really are enthused and happy to make the money. A huge round of applause went up as it was announced.

11:45 a.m.The first Monday of the World Series. It'll be a lot quieter today than this past weekend but there will be three events going on at one point later today so in that regard it'll be busy. I'll be curious how many people play a $1,500 PLHE event as compared to a $1,500 NLHE that starts on a weekday (of course there'd be no comparison to one that started on a weekend).

11:30 a.m.Back for another exciting day of action. Yesterday, before the $1,500 NLHE event kicked off they were playing a mix of hip hop music over the loudspeakers. The D.J. today must be of the older variety as he is playing some 60's rock tunes. It's decent stuff but it just doesn't get your blood pumping like some 50 Cent.

11:30 a.m.The craziness that is the initial $1,500 NLHE event is set to get underway. Dealers are filling every available table in the Amazon Room in what is sure to be a record field for a non-Main Event tournament here at the WSOP.

I returned after the dinner break to see who had fallen asleep at their table after eating a good meal. Personally, when I am playing in a big tournament I try and avoid eating a big meal at the dinner break because all it makes me want to do is take a long nap.

It's 11:15 a.m. and the tournament room is as quiet as it will be over the next seven weeks. Members of the media are roaming around, re-acquainting themselves with people they haven't seen in a year. Daniel Negreanu is out in the hallway being interviewed by Poker Road radio and awestruck poker fans walk through, amazed at the sight of 200+ poker tables lined up.

It is that time of the year where the poker playing community gathers in Vegas. Over the next two months, there will be drama... both on and off the tables as professionals and amateurs strive for that one elusive goal every poker player dreams of – a World Series of Poker bracelet. Satellites have already gotten underway and play will start on Friday with a $10,000 Pot Limit Hold Em event.

As more corporations realize that the environment needs the attention of everyone to survive and thrive, it is refreshing to see that Harrah’s and the World Series of Poker are doing a small part to help. This year, the felt on all of the poker tables will be “green” in that it is made from 98% sustainable materials.
