The 8th annual Full Tilt Online Poker Series is two-thirds of the way finished and there are more exciting events and big winners to talk about. Event #12 was the first of a three event Tuesday and was a No Limit Hold’em tournament with 1 re-buy and 1 add-on offered.

The Full Tilt Online Poker Series is almost halfway done as events 8 through 11 are in the bag. Event #8 kicked things off Sunday and was a heads-up No Limit Hold’em contest with $500 + $35 buy-ins. The prize pool barely exceeded the $250,000 guaranteed amount by $6,000 as 512 players bought into the heads-up tournament.

On the evening of May 8th, celebrities and professional poker players gathered at San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino in Southern California to host a poker tournament on behalf of Ante Up for Africa, an event hosted by the group’s organizers Annie Duke and Don Cheadle. The combined funds raised from the tournament, silent auction, and contribution from San Manuel, was over $500,000.

Plenty more action has taken place at the Full Tilt Online Poker Series as events #4 through #7 have come to a conclusion. First up, Friday’s Event #4 was a Pot Limit Hold’em tournament with buy-ins of $200 + $16. Marco Traniello was the host and the 1,076 players buying-in helped exceed the $200,000 guaranteed prize pool to the tune of $215,200.

On May 3rd and 4th, exactly 53 of the top female poker players in the world gathered in London for the third annual Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship. And out of a field that included players like WSOP Europe main event champion Annette Obrestad, it was Liv Boeree who won the title.

Back for another year, the ever-popular Full Tilt Online Poker Series kicked off Wednesday with Event #1. The first tournament in a series of 24, taking place from May 7th to May 18th, saw WPT Championship winner David Chui as the host. Event #1 was No Limit Hold’em and buy-ins were $200 + $16 with the tables set at 6-Max.

The Kentucky Derby Poker Championship took place on Saturday, May 3rd at Caesars Indiana to raise money for three organizations, and the results showed that more than $60,000 was raised. Poker pros Phil Hellmuth, Jr. and Robert Williamson III were the hosts of the event that prompted 30 players to buy in at $2,500 each.

As the Ante Up for Africa organization gears up for its 2008 tournament amidst the World Series of Poker , it will conduct a smaller, invitation-only tournament on May 8th to raise additional funds. The event will take place at the San Manuel Casino in Southern California with 120 celebrities and invited guests.

On Monday, April 28th, the Children’s Hospital Boston held their 4th annual charity poker tournament to help raise money for the kids. I was asked to join them in the festivities and flew out to Boston for the event. Annie, Howard, and I stayed at the Liberty Hotel, which used to be a jail!

Erich Kollmann came into the final with the chip lead and the native Austrian made sure the Poker News Cup would stay in Austria as he took home the title without ever having to play a hand heads up.
