Tournaments
The Kentucky Derby Poker Championship took place on Saturday, May 3rd at Caesars Indiana to raise money for three organizations, and the results showed that more than $60,000 was raised. Poker pros Phil Hellmuth, Jr. and Robert Williamson III were the hosts of the event that prompted 30 players to buy in at $2,500 each.

As the Ante Up for Africa organization gears up for its 2008 tournament amidst the World Series of Poker , it will conduct a smaller, invitation-only tournament on May 8th to raise additional funds. The event will take place at the San Manuel Casino in Southern California with 120 celebrities and invited guests.

On Monday, April 28th, the Children’s Hospital Boston held their 4th annual charity poker tournament to help raise money for the kids. I was asked to join them in the festivities and flew out to Boston for the event. Annie, Howard, and I stayed at the Liberty Hotel, which used to be a jail!

Erich Kollmann came into the final with the chip lead and the native Austrian made sure the Poker News Cup would stay in Austria as he took home the title without ever having to play a hand heads up.

115 players returned to action at the Poker News Cup Austria with hopes of making it to day 3. By the time play ended, 31 players remained. As is usually the case, the early chip leaders were nowhere to be found when the day was over. Harald Suschegg started the day with the chip lead and T-6 Poker pro Henrik Gwinner was 2nd.

Only 66 players started day 1A of the Austria Poker News Cup and when play ended, 33 of them had moved on to day 2. Day 1B promised to deliver more players and action and did not disappoint. 135 joined the action bringing the total to 201 and making the prize pool €120,600.

The inaugural PokerNews Cup was held in Melbourne, Australia, in 2007 and players from around the globe came to try and take a chance at winning the title. The beautiful city of Salzburg, Austria and the Concord Card Casino is hosting the latest Poker News Cup and play started with 66 players taking a seat - including well known professionals Rolf Slotboom and Lee Nelson.

The inaugural Jennifer Harman Charity Poker Tournament was held in 2007 to raise money for the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA). After raising $130,000 and allowing the no-kill shelter to build a new wing to house more animals in the facility, Harman set out to do better in 2008.

Comedian, actor, and poker enthusiast Brad Garrett is set to host a charity poker tournament on April 20th at Hollywood Park Casino in Los Angeles. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the 1736 Family Crisis Center, an organization that operates numerous shelters for victims of domestic violence.
